The Illinois Department of Transportation Hosts Hearing on Proposed I-290 Changes Today at Proviso Math & Science Academy!

WESTCHESTER - The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) will be hosting a meeting to discuss proposed changes to the I-290 expressway.  The project limits are from just west of US 12/20/45 (Mannheim Road) to Racine Avenue for a total distance of 13.0 miles and goes through the heart of the 7th District.

Today's meeting will take place from 5pm-8pm at the Proviso Math and Science Academy, 8601 Roosevelt Road in Forest Park, Illinois.  The purpose of the meeting is to present the overall I-290 Study findings to date, and to obtain stakeholder input regarding the alternatives being carried forward for more detailed study.  Each of the alternatives under consideration includes improvements to both highway and transit modes in the I-290 corridor.

The meeting will be in an open house format, and interested persons may attend anytime between 5:00pm and 8:00pm.  Exhibits will be on display and an audio-visual presentation will be shown approximately every 20 minutes beginning at 5:00pm, with the last showing at 7:30pm.  IDOT representatives and project team members will be available to answer questions regarding the project.  In addition, there will be a question and answer session held at 6:00pm.

In conjunction with the I-290 Study, IDOT and the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) are partnering on a Vision Study for the Blue Line Forest Park branch.  The Vision Study will identify long term improvements for the existing Blue Line from Canal Street to the Forest Park station.  The CTA will provide information and seek input on the Vision Study as part of the I-290 public meetings.  Representatives of the CTA will be on hand to answer questions about their study.

The I-290 Project covers a great portion of the 7th District represented by Rep. Chris Welch.  Rep. Welch serves communities in the 7th Representative District including all or portions of Bellwood, Berkeley, Broadview, Forest Park, Hillside, Maywood, Melrose Park, Northlake, La Grange Park, River Forest, Westchester, and Western Springs.
