Winter Washing:
When temperatures fall below freezing, we have some limitations in what and how we wash the veggies.  You will notice your potatoes have not been washed as usual, but know that they store much better this way.  We will continue to do our best to get you the high quality produce that you deserve.

The Dirt on Eating Seasonally Even in Winter

Part of eating locally means eating seasonally. One of my favorite parts about being a farmer is my increased ability to eat seasonally, even in Winter.  But, this takes some persistence and practice. Here are a few ideas that I have borrowed from other folks that are keeping it local and seasonal.

With an extended Winter season, this Alaskan cook has plenty of practice with using those Winter veggies. Take a look at 4 ideas that she suggests to help you get through the Winter.  Click here.

This passionate foodie talks about why we would want to consider eating seasonally.  They even cite a study that finds the nutritional content of food changes with the seasons. Click here

This article talks more about what to do with all of the winter root veggies that are going to be most prevalent during the winter season. Click here

Each of us is in a different place in how accessible local food will be to us.  Some of us have it growing in our yard and stored in our freezers, others depend upon our local farmers  to provide us with locally produced items though CSA or farm markets, while many of us make regular trips to our local super market to supply us with our food items. This article from the Farm Aid website talks about the many ways to access seasonal food in an area without a year round growing season.  Click here
