Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Ceremony -  Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is Monday, January 19, and we invite you to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. King in the Grande Ballroom at the Westland City Hall.  Doors will open at 9 a.m. and the event will begin at 10 a.m. This year's ceremony will feature appearances by local dignitaries, musical selections, local talent, prayers lead by community church leaders and  Dr. Curtis Ivery, Chancellor of Wayne County Community College, as the keynote speaker. City Hall is located at 36300 Warren Rd. We hope you can join us for this special celebration.   

 

City Offices Closed for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day - All City offices will be closed on Monday, January 19 in observance of Martin Luther King Day. This includes the 18th District Court and The William P. Faust Westland Public Library.  Trash and Recycling pick up will not be affected.

 

Scheduled Upcoming Civic Meetings - Residents are invited to attend the upcoming City meetings.  Below is a list of the meetings with their date, time and location. 

 

-The Westland Disability Concerns Committee will meet on Tuesday, January 20 at 5:30 p.m. in Westland City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Rd.

-The Westland City Council Meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 20 at 7:00 p.m. in Westland City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Rd.

-The Downtown Development Authority will meet on Thursday, January 22 at 12:00 p.m. at Westland City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Rd.

 

Coretta Scott King Celebration - The William P. Faust Westland Public Library is celebrating the life of Coretta Scott King on Tuesday, January 20.   Storyteller Gwedolyn Lewis as Coretta Scott King, the widow of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., tells the story of the civil rights leader and activist from this courageous woman's life. This event is scheduled for 6 to 7 p.m.  The Library is located at 6123 Central City Parkway.

 

Friday Night Movie at the Library - The William P. Faust Westland Public Library, located at 6123 Central City Parkway, will be holding its Friday Night Movie on Friday, January 23 at 6:30 p.m.  This week's movie is "Boyhood" (Rated R).  Each week also features a trivia contest with small prizes handed out after the movie.  Snacks and refreshments are provided on a donation basis.

 

 

Friday Night Glow Skate - The Mike Modano Ice Arena has re-opened for the season and Friday Night Glow Skate is back.  Glow skate will run every Friday from 7:00 p.m. to 9:20 p.m. and will cost $4 for kids and $5 for adults for residents.  The cost is 50 cents more for non-resident.  Glow in the dark accessories will be available for purchase in the pro shop.  The Ice Arena is located at 6210 Wildwood.
