Working Poor Tax Credit

Lyn Demaret
President/CEO

New this year the State of Arizona has change the rules and is allowing donors to claim the "Working Poor Tax Credit" without the need to itemize their return.  It's a win, win situation.  Make a donation to River Cities United Way and know that your money is staying right here in Mohave/La Paz County.  Then when you file your taxes it will decrease any debt you might owe to the government.  The best part is that this is in addition to the school tax credit, not in place of.  There is no easier way to help your community and those that are struggling.

This past year we had the opportunity to support a family who had fallen on hard times.  Both parents had lost their jobs and in the past had been able to afford for their children to play all types of sports.  Due to the loss of employment, they could no longer play any sports.  We were able to pay for the boys to both play pop warner football.  The parents were so appreciative.  They thanked us over and over.  The boys were able to continue playing a sport they loved and continue hanging out with the same group of friends.

Talk without bad intention.
Give without any reason.
and most of all, care for people
without any expectation."

Bullhead_BoomboxBullhead Boom Box Christmas Parade
River Cities United Way teamed up with Upton Appliance Store for our parade entry...

Our volunteer, Alistair, dressed up as the "Cat in the Hat" and Bernila Estrada suited up in a costume depicting a Duck Dynasty character (not pictured).

6 volunteers, and our Bullhead Office Manager - Mary, handed out candy during the mile-long parade route.

Lots of fun and every child screamed for a chance for a picture with the "Cat in the Hat".

Trying to fill those shoes is Ms. Laura Hansen

Laura Hansen was born and lived in Utah until 1988. She married her childhood sweetheart and together they raised five children.    During the busy years as a mother she managed a fabric store and taught sewing classes while juggling her time with PTA, driving the family taxi to and from school, dancing lessons, soccer, football, and cheerleading events.  In 1980 she chose a more professional career path and entered Steven Henagar's School of Business completing a Business Certificated Program.   In 1988 the family moved to Arkansas and in 1989 she began working in the public school system.   This allowed her to stay involved in her children's lives and activities.   In 2000 she began working in County Government as Assistant to the County Judge.   She was instrumental in organizing many civic events and served in many leadership positions.  She was an active member of the local Chamber of Commerce including two years as the Chairperson for the Chamber of Commerce Leadership Institute Program.   In 2009 she and her husband moved to Arizona.   Her experience through philanthropic opportunities guided her to United Way and she loved anything where she was able to help children and be a part of serving the community.

Laura will be making great strides running the Kingman office.  You can reach Laura via email: [email protected]
