Meridian Finance Group & U.S. Commercial Service
   
   Meridian Finance Group and U.S. Commercial Service presented at the VITA Global Networking Breakfast on Wednesday, November 12, 2014.            
   Mabel Luen, Trade Credit Specialty Broker with Meridian Finance Group discussed trade finance tools that exporters can use to expand their international sales. Luen presented on the global demand for credit and how to address it using export credit insurance. She explained that export credit insurance enables exporters to strengthen their balance sheets, reduce their bad debt reserves and facilitate securitization of foreign A/R.
   Julie Anne Hennessy, Director of U.S. Commercial Services of the West Los Angeles branch and U.S. Department of Commerce informed attendees about how they assist businesses to expand into new international markets. Whether you are looking to make your first export sale or expand to additional international markets, Hennessy discussed services and opportunities such as trade counseling, market intelligence, business matchmaking and commercial diplomacy.

Association of American Chambers of Commerce

in Latin America visits VITA

 

   VITA & VICA welcomed Isabel Quiroz, Manager of
Association of American Chambers of Commerce in Latin America & Caribbean. AACCLA's mission is to promote trade and investment between the United States and the countries of the region through free trade, free markets, and free enterprise. 
   They will be hosting the Outlook on the Americas Conference in Los Angeles next year on February 11.

11th Annual Global California Conference 
California's Super Region of Innovation

 

   Louis Stewart, Deputy Director of innovation and entrepreneurship with the Go-Biz office of the State of California and over 24 experts from public and private sectors will be at the 11th Annual Global California Conference entitled, "California's Super Region of Innovation." The conference will be held on December 3, 2014 at the Coconut Grove at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk.

   The Monterey Bay International Trade Association (MBITA) and TradePort.org have partnered this year to produce the event with the Bay Area Council (BAC), China Silicon Valley and Brand Monterey Bay (BMB)

   "The innovation spirit and life style of California's 'Super Region of Innovation' is spreading throughout the Chinese marketplace from Shandong to Shenzhen creating opportunities for economic growth, job creation and successful bilateral trade and investment between China and California with a focus on the CleanTech sectors to address climate change", said Victor Wang, President of China Silicon Valley.   

   This year's conference will call special attention to the trade and investment bridges for innovation between California and China. Today these bridges have morphed into 'green, innovation superhighways with a focus on sustainable technologies and services as well as investment, telemedicine, eco-tourism, and e-commerce.

   "The region's unique start up and investment culture is matched by its rare and effective partnership with higher education all taking place in one of the most beautiful environments in the world", stated Tony Livoti, President of MBITA/TradePort.

Free Workshop on Internet Export Marketing
 
   The Port of Los Angeles, as part of their special export workshop series, held a "Market Research Tools for Export Success" workshop on November 20. The class covered how not to be a typical "Googler," learn to use Web portal, export start-up tools, trade and economic statistics and so on.  
   In collaboration with Mayor Eric Garcetti's Office of Economic Development, The Port of LA will host a free workshop on Internet Export Marketing on December 9, 2014, from 8:30am-12:00pm at the Los Angeles City Hall in Downtown.
  The phenomenon of e-commerce and globalization provides opportunities for small and medium sized businesses to launch new marketing outlets for products and services. The internet offers much promise to U.S. firms interested in a new vehicle for exporting.
