Greetings!

Welcome to the August 2013 Rocky Mountain BEST Volunteer Newsletter. We hope you have been having a great year, and that we can find a way to involve you in our 2013 activities. September 2013 Game Kickoff volunteer opportunities are in this newsletter and a preview of October event opportunities. Please forward this newsletter to others who might be interested in Rocky Mountain (RM) BEST.
  September Kickoff Event Help Needed!
We have near term need for volunteers to help with Kickoff Event.

 

Friday 13 September Noon - 6 PM at Club Workshop
2013 Returnable Kits
2013 Kit Team Leads
  1. Game Field and Kit Move (~Noon - 6 PM - even two hours would help). We'll meet at Club Workshop at 999 Vallejo St #2, Denver near I-25 and 8th Avenue. We'll move one Game Field quadrant and almost 100 totes from Club Workshop second floor into a rental truck. Support requires heavy lifting and stair climbing. We will be able to move the totes at 3 PM from the truck into Denver South High School at 1700 East Louisiana Ave near I-25 and University Boulevard. 

 Saturday 14 September 8 AM - 5 PM at Denver South High School

  1. Game Field and Kit Move (8 AM - 10 AM) We will move the single Game Field quadrant from the rental truck at Denver South High School at 1700 East Louisiana Ave near I-25 and University Boulevard.  This support requires heavy lifting.
  2. General Support (8 AM - 5 PM even two hours would help)  We still have several opening to help manage volunteers and school teams. All the support will be at  Denver South High School (1700 East Louisiana Ave near I-25 and University Boulevard)

  3. Game Field Move (3:30 PM - 5:00 PM) We will move the single Game Field quadrant to the rental truck at Denver South High School (1700 East Louisiana Ave near I-25 and University Boulevard) to Club Workshop second floor (999 Vallejo St #2  near I-25 and 8th Avenue). This support requires heavy lifting and stair climbing.

October Practice and Game Day Event Preview
We will have additional information on October Practice and Game Day Events in a few weeks. Here is a preview of Practice and Game Day support needs with current start and end time estimates.

 

Friday 18 October and Friday 25 October 5 PM - 10 PM meet at Club Workshop and then to Event Venue
  1. Game Field Move (5 PM - 10 PM) Meet at Club Workshop at 999 Vallejo St #2  near I-25 and 8th Avenue. Move 4 Game Field quadrants and several totes from second floor of Club Workshop to a rental truck and then to Denver South High School, 1700 East Louisiana Ave near I-25 and University Boulevard for 18 October or Auraria Event Center for 25 October. Requires heavy lifting and stair climbing.  

Saturday 19 October 8 AM - 3 PM at Denver South High School and Saturday 26 October 7 AM - 5:30 PM at Auraria Event Center

  1. General Support (7 AM - 5:30 PM even two hours would help)

Congratulations to the Kit Team!
  
This week the Kit Team completed the school Consumable (Blue) and Returnable (Red) kits. They cataloged returned items, repaired broken items, ordered new items, inventoried everything, and ultimately filled 30 Returnable

totes and 30 Consumable totes. It was a 9 month effort requiring the help of more than a dozen volunteers and hundreds of hours by Elwyn Allyn, Carolyn Bauer, Jo Anne Fry, Donna Gerlich, Lori Lazuk, Patty Gaspar, Julia Mason, Mike Mason, Angie Matthias, Scott McEwen, Gary Pratt, Linda Scott, Dave Porter, and Roger Erickson.  Thanks to you all!
Who's Busy Now
Teacher Mentor Institute (TMI) success on 5/6 August
School Interface Committee is working with 28 schools for the 28 slots for the Gatekeeper game. We have a waiting list for any schools beyond the 28 schools maximum. Please have any schools who might be interested visit our website and use Contact Us Attn: Jose for more information.

2013 TMI Constructed Robot

Game Committee provided kits for Teacher / Mentor Institute (TMI) and completed all the kits. The prototype team is finalizing the protobot and will demonstrate it at Kickoff. The game field team is finalizing the individual field pieces and integration with the protobot to occur in early September.

Events Committee successfully ran the 2013 TMI and is focusing on Kickoff and the Gatekeeper game events. Schedule details on the left sidebar.

Volunteer Interface Committee is developing volunteer plans for the Gatekeeper game events. 2013 Release Form is available on our website for all participants and volunteers.

Awards and Judging Committee is planning notebook judging and all the Game and BEST awards.

participating in 2013 to 28. We are currently working with 28 schools but it may not be too late for a school to get involved. We are looking for schools to add to our waiting list, should a current school not be able to participate.
