USA Archery Crowns JOAD Grand National Champions

HAMILTON, Ohio - After an Easton JOAD Nationals that included a 144-arrow qualification round, a team round and eliminations, Grand National Champions emerged in each youth category. The Championship titles were decided based upon qualification round placement, participation in the team round, and final placement in the elimination rounds.

This year's Easton JOAD Nationals and U.S. National Target Championships, a combined event, had record-setting attendance of over 700 competitors, a sure sign of archery's continued growth since the sport began increasing in popularity last year. Winners - and the second and third place archers - received plaques from USA Archery commemorating their placements; the Grand National Champions also received Easton quivers thanks to a generous donation by title sponsor Easton Technical Products.

USA Archery Congratulates JOAD Olympians

What's the highest honor a Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) archer can earn for his or her scores? JOAD Olympian awards are the pinnacle of the JOAD Achievement program, and are given to archers who meet very challenging score criteria. All JOAD Olympians must be current members of USA Archery as well as members of a current JOAD club.

Please visit: http://www.teamusa.org/USA-Archery/Programs/Junior-Olympic-Archery-Development/JOAD-Achievement-Program.aspx to find the Olympian award application form as well as a link to the JOAD Scoring Matrix to see how your archers can earn their Olympian Awards as well.

Club Spotlight: Next Step Archery

USA Archery has developed the "Club Spotlight" feature as a way to help Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) clubs learn from one another, and hopefully share some cool ideas! This month, we're up in the Pacific Northwest with Next Step Archery - who is hosting a JOAD Camp in August. Thanks to Next Step Archery for answering our questions!

Winners Announced: Second-Quarter JOAD Mail-In

USA Archery has announced the winners of the second quarter JOAD Mail-In Tournament, a year-round competitive archery event that gives new and experienced archers valuable, low-cost tournament experience.

Archers are permitted to score a local league, tournament or on a JOAD "scoring day," and submit their score as part of the Mail-In Tournament. Teams are also encouraged to compete. Archers pay a nominal fee to enter, and can gain competition experience without leaving the comfort of their local archery range.

Blog post by Mary Emmons, Outreach Director

Whether an archer is participating in a recreation program, JOAD or Adult Club, camp, event - or training as an elite athlete - USA Archery (USAA) is committed to making sure all participants have access to a safe and healthy setting in which to participate. USAA is proud to introduce the SafeSport Program to ensure all members have the awareness, tools and support structure they need to create a safe environment in which to enjoy archery.

SafeSport, founded by the United State Olympic Committee (USOC), serves to address misconduct in sport by providing information, training and resources to parents, clubs, coaches and athletes to help members of the sport community to recognize, reduce, and respond to misconduct in sport.

There are three key components of SafeSport:

1.)  Recognize: Learn about the different types of misconduct in sport.

2.)  Reduce: Develop a strategy to ensure athlete well being.

3.)  Respond: Know how to take action before there's a problem.
