The Logbooks: Connecticut's Slave Ships and Human Memory
Sunday, February 22
2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Author Event with Anne Farrow

In 1757, a sailing ship owned by an affluent Connecticut merchant sailed from New London to the tiny island of Bence in Sierra Leone, West Africa, to take on fresh water and slaves. On board was the owner's son, on a training voyage

to learn the trade. The Logbooks explores that voyage, and two others

documented by that young man, to unearth new realities of Connecticut's

slave trade and question how we could have forgotten this part of our past so

completely.

About the author:

A journalist in New England for 30 years, much of that time at the Hartford Courant,

Farrow was a lead writer on The Courant's prize-winning investigations into

slavery in Connecticut, and the co-author of the book Complicity: How the

North Promoted, Prolonged, and Profited from Slavery, published by

Ballantine Books in 2005.

This program is free and no registration is required.
