Ronald McDonald House Receives Nationally Recognized Certification

The Ronald McDonald House of Indiana has been certified by United Way of Central Indiana and Points of Light as a Service Enterprise. Points of Light is the world's largest organization dedicated to volunteer service. Ronald McDonald House of Indiana is one of the first organizations in the United States to be recognized as a Service Enterprise, and the first Ronald McDonald House to receive the nationally-recognized certification.

Service Enterprises fundamentally leverage volunteers and their skills to successfully deliver on the mission of their organizations. Research conducted by the TCC Group, a national program and evaluation firm, found that organizations operating as Service Enterprises outperform their peer organizations on all aspects of organizational effectiveness and are more adaptable and sustainable.

With support from the United Way of Central Indiana, the Ronald McDonald House completed an extensive assessment, training, consulting and certification process that led to this recognition.

Introducing Our Spring Interns

Spring Interns - Rachel Moehle, Katie Patterson and Josh Heath

Josh Heath - Josh is a student in IUPUI's School of Journalism with a focus on public relations and will be working with Kelly Thien in Communications and Marketing. A big sports fan, Josh calls Indianapolis home. He is very interested in learning more about working in the nonprofit sector due to the genuine sincerity to help people. Like many of our interns, Josh learned about our internship program through IUPUI.

Rachel Moehle - Rachel is an IUPUI School of Liberal Arts student focusing on communications in nonprofits.  She is also working on her certificate in event management and will be graduating in May.  Her internship will involve working on various projects within our Development Office. Rachel recently got married and she and her husband live in Indianapolis with their twin daughters, Sophie and Katy. Rachel learned about this opportunity through the House's CEO, Michelle Study-Campbell.

Katie Patterson - Katie is an IUPUI student majoring in Tourism, Convention and Event Management so she is a natural to work with Pam Anderson in special events.  She also has past experience in helping plan large sporting events. She calls Carmel home but lives on campus.  She first learned about the House when she was in Girl Scouts through their support of Riley Hospital and the RMHI.

Staff Changes

Daun Departing to "Don" Grandmother Hat

Daun Hughey will be leaving us to spend time caring for her grandchildren on a regular basis.  It is with a heavy heart combined with joy for her new role that we will see her off. Daun will continue in her duties through February and will then work Mondays and Fridays in March before her full resignation takes effect the beginning of April.  Look for upcoming details on a farewell reception.  In the meantime, her position has been posted and we will start the hiring process for a new Guest Services Manager for RMH at Riley. The posting along with qualifications can be found on our website under "How You Can Help" --- "Employment Opportunities".

 Fond Farewell to Sally

Sally McGuffey has accepted a tremendous offer from Methodist Health Foundation and will be leaving us very shortly to serve as their new Chief Development Officer. Sally is a rock star and as such was recruited specifically for this position. We are thankful that she was with us these past months to launch our Major Gifts program. We wish her the best in her new role!

Healing Heroes Breakfast and Annual Meeting

March 19, 2015

Each spring we take the opportunity to show off the House and show our appreciation to our major donors with a breakfast.  This year, the breakfast is combined with our annual meeting and is scheduled for Thursday, March 19th.  If you would be interested in helping with this event, please contact our Special Events Manager, Pam Anderson at [email protected].

Guest Services Reminders

Limestone

  • Please be sure when checking the room for readiness that the following things have been completed prior to checking the board:  sink, mirror, trash liner, vacuumed, hand soap, pillow protectors, mattress pads and blankets.
  • Reminder: Only one parking pass per family unless approved by the manager on duty due to limited space in our parking lot.
  • Our new vacuums are very powerful - please be sure they get emptied after every use due to their small capacity. There is a supply of small trash bags in the linen closet.
  • Help keep the cleaning buckets stocked with Windex, paper towels, trash liners and Lysol wipes.
  • When a room is accepted, please encourage families to check-in at their earliest opportunity.  This helps us spread check-ins throughout the day.  No check-ins should be scheduled after 9 pm without approval from the manager on duty.

Look Who Was Caught Rolling Out The Red Carpet

Beth Johnson, Chief Operating Officer, caught Byron and Marsha Robinson demonstrating cooperation, communication and teamwork.

Beth wrote "I would like to recognize Byron and Marsha Robinson for coming to my rescue by covering the morning shift on New Year's Day.  I appreciated the teamwork they displayed by volunteering to come in to support the staff person on duty - Me!  And I also appreciate that because they were here, we were able to provide much better service to our houseguests that morning."

Thank you Byron and Marsha!
