ns, the West Hollywood Halloween Costume Carnaval will be held from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. along Santa Monica Boulevard from Doheny Drive to La Cienega Boulevard. The City is offering a free, safe and hassle free way to get to the party this Halloween. "FrankenRide" is a special shuttle that will stop at all Metro bus stops along Santa Monica Boulevard between [roughly] Plummer Park and La Cienega Boulevard (Fuller and Croft), beginning at 6:30 p.m. and running approximately every 15 minutes until 1:00 AM. The MAK Center for Art and Architecture at the Schindler House is pleased to present Specters of Godard, a panel discussion considering film and video works by post-conceptual artists who trace their origins to the cinema of Jean-Luc Godard. Organized and moderated by Dr. Juli Carson, Associate Professor at UC Irvine and director of its Critical and Curatorial MFA program and the University Art Galleries, the panel will include filmmaker and installation artist Kerry Tribe, Israeli-American artist Michael Moshe Dahan, and artist and curator Constanze Ruhm. MOCA presents the first major museum exhibition devoted to the art and collaborations of Bob Mizer (1922-1992) and Touko Laaksonen, aka "Tom of Finland" (1920-1991), two of the towering figures of twentieth century erotic art and legendary pioneers of Post-war gay culture. The exhibition will feature a selection of Laaksonen's iconic and masterful drawings and books, alongside Mizer's photographs, films, and examples of his groundbreaking magazine Physique Pictorial-where drawings by "Tom of Finland" were first published in the United States in 1957. For more information, click here

Transgender Day of Remembrance

Event hosted by the West Hollywood Transgender Advisory Board. The Transgender Day of Remembrance is observed all across the world on November 20th. An outdoor reception that will include speakers from the community, City representatives, various transgender performers, and will conclude with the reading of the names of transgender people who have passed due to hatred and violence. LarkGallery Online Call for Artists and Musicians:

"Find Your Roots" LarkGallery Online, in collaboration with the City of West Hollywood and the Russian Advisory Board, will bridge the culturally and religiously diverse, multi-generational community of Weho East with a two-month art exhibition full of educational activities exploring the global roots of each culture's art. LA County Arts Commission Grants

The Commission contracts about 200 arts organizations annually through the Organizational Grant Program (OGP) to provide arts services. Applications are accepted annually between the months from October to December. For more info, visit here. 

 

SEEFEST 2014 is open for submissions! Do you want to have your film seen in Los Angeles next year? The 9th edition of SeeFest will take place May 1-5 and we welcome you to our festival. The only requirement is that the film is about, or related to the region of South East Europe. For more information, click here.

Clive Barker's Worlds and Words

This new exhibit explores the artwork and writing of Clive Barker. The exhibit will include never before seen artwork by Clive Barker, historic hand-painted movie posters, and images of handwritten manuscripts by Clive that provide a glimpse into the process behind his writing. Sam Falls, FREE

Sam Falls has produced his first public sculpture with LA><ART as part of the City of West Hollywood's Art on the Outside Program. The work will be on view at Plummer Park on Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood. Falls' public sculpture will be on view concurrently with a site-specific installation at LA><ART and a concurrent billboard on La Cienega Boulevard. Inspired by the history of minimalist sculpture, Sam Falls is invested in experimentation with process and materials, and in applying photographic operations to the realm of sculpture. Falls has created a post-minimalist UV powder coated aluminum sculpture whose paint will fade in the sunlight over time.
