City of Westland Opens Warming Centers

January 5, 2015 - January, 9, 2015

Westland, MI - Mayor William R. Wild announces that in response to the extreme cold, the City of Westland has opened several warming centers around the City for Monday, January 5 - Friday, January 9.  The dates may be extended if the cold spell continues. Sub-zero temperatures with even lower wind chills can be very dangerous and any exposure to the outside should be limited with temperatures like this. Below is a listing of the location with their address and the hours the warming center will be opened.

  • William P. Faust Public Library - 6123 Central City Parkway - 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday - Thursday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday.
  • Dorsey Center - 32715 Dorsey - 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. 
  • Friendship Center - 1119 N. Newburgh - 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday and Thursday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday

This information can be found on the city's government access channel WLND and has also been posted on the city website at www.cityofwestland.com and includes maps and directions to these facilities.  There is also a link to the Michigan Department of Community Health for information on hypothermia (cold related illness).
