A Message from the Pastor

Dear Disciples of Jesus at American Lutheran,

We have now begun the season of Lent, a rich time for us to focus on our inner spiritual growth as we journey towards Easter. Together as a community of faith we reflect on the mystery of God's love through the death and resurrection of Jesus, and how Jesus leads us through our own "deaths," and wilderness experiences to new life.

There are many opportunities to help make this a meaningful time through prayer, Sunday and Wednesday evening worship, our Lenten conversations, and works of love. Check out the details below.

May our gracious and loving God walk with us

during this time of mystery and growth.

See you in church,

Pastor Gretchen

Rebecca Circle

Rebecca Circle, the women's bible study group, meets on the 4th Tuesday of every month at 7:00pm in the nursery of the administrative building.

Their next meeting is TONIGHT, February 24th 7:00pm.

All women of the church are welcome.

Lenten Midweek Worship

We gather each Wednesday evening during Lent (Feb. 25-Mar. 25) in the church following the soup study, for a quiet contemplative service with readings, prayer, silence, candlelight and the music of Holden Evening Prayer.

Conversations for Lent

Feb. 22nd - March 25th

"How do we make a difference by being the church together?" That's the question we'll be considering over five weeks during Lent. Using a new resource from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), "Claimed, Gathered, Sent" each week will focus on a different theme:

  • We are church
  • We are Lutheran
  • We are church together
  • We are church for the sake of the world
  • We are church with other partners

These conversations will be especially relevant as our Congregation Council has committed itself to reviewing our mission and purpose this year.

Your participation is welcomed and encouraged either on

Wednesday evenings (Feb. 25-Mar. 25) over soup 6:15-7:15; or

Sundays after worship (Feb. 22-Mar. 22) from 11:30-12:30pm.

***Sign up to bring soup online at SignUpGenius or
on the paper sign-up sheet by the fellowship table.***

ELCA Foundation Gift Planner
What Could You Have Done?

It's that season again. No, not winter or spring or baseball season. Rather, that dreaded season we call "tax season". If you have noticed that your taxes are higher this season, what gifting strategies might have you used to reduce your taxes and be able to support your favorite ministries. There are many gift planning strategies and tools you might find useful this year to minimize a repeat of last year. Here are just a few offered by the ELCA Foundation: charitable gift annuities and charitable trusts that can provide both favorable income and tax deductions to you; donor advised funds and life estates that also provide significant tax deductions. These are just a few of the tools. For more information about these tools and other gifting strategies that benefit your heirs as well as your church, contact our ELCA Regional Gift Planner, Greg Shepherd at: 909-910-6823 or [email protected].

Please contact your own tax professional for advice on utilizing these type of gifting tools.
