VietNamNet Bridge - Bribes are sometimes given as gifts during Tet, but they are also a year-round problem, Dang Ngoc Dinh, director of the Center for Community Support Development Studies, told the Tien Phong (Vanguard) newspaper.

Tet is drawing near, and some people are worried that this is an occasion where bribes could be given under the pretense of being Tet gifts.

Your centre has conducted some surveys on corruption in Viet Nam. What's your opinion on giving and receiving Tet gifts?

Yes, Tet is an occasion for people to give gifts to each other. But bribery takes place all year round. For example, it could be camouflaged as a present at a wedding party. That's why we should not equate Tet presents with acts of bribery.

The word "belief" has cropped up often during the recent months when one talks about the monetary market and the management policies by the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV).

The central bank has adopted a series of measures, as well as made explicit moves to stabilise the market, but a number of people still worry if the policies have been able to lay the foundation for market stability in the future.

The Vietnam News Agency spoke to the Deputy Governor of the SBV, Nguyen Thi Hong, about this issue.

hi-five If the auctions stop on Sunday, then will bond sales will be the new means by which to control the exchange rate? Something has to replace the auctions. And if banks will be facilitating this, won't the currency need to be internationally traded?

Sorry Oldwaz - - I was posting at the same time. Why do you think the auctions will continue?

I'm thinking the articles are saying they will not continue, and that the foreign currency will now be handled by the banks. Here is a quote: Sunday 22 of this month will see the discontinuation of the auction and the adoption of the banking system as a responsible foreign remittances, Eyes are crossed!

[tlm724] Central Bank Governor explained that "it is not true that the Central remains preoccupied with selling the currency like ATM daily",

[tlm724] the CBI is saying they aren't preoccupied with pumping the dollars out daily like an ATM machine ! They have bigger fish to fry now !

Hello Family, there is quite a bit of news today about the changing of the mechanism within the CBI....but there is one piece of all these articles including the first one that WS posted on the old thread that states the CBI governor cannot remain as CBI governor due to certain conditions.....that to me is HUGE news....if he is leaving this says MUCH about TIMING....and then we have to ask the question WHO will replace him.

All the news articles that WS has posted about the change in the CBI mechanism.....all of them included this little blurb...."coupled with certain conditions can not remain governor at the central bank"......

That to me is a HUGE piece of news....cleverly hidden amongst all the other exciting news of these articles about the change coming to the CBI.....

But to me this is all about TIMING.....why does he feel the need to leave now.....and even more importantly....WHO is going to replace him.....this just adds to the importance of this news to me that the CBI is undergoing a major shake up.....just wanted to pass this along before I got busy with the summaries.
