The SEF Challenges You to Spell
"E-X-C-E-L-L-E-N-C-E"!

 

The 5th Annual Community Spelling Bee will convey bragging rights to the team that wins the coveted title of SEF Spelling Champion. Last year the 'Wanna Bees' team-- Dave Pestillo, Joe Peccerillo, and John Zimmerman won that honor.  Who will win the trophy this year?

 

On Thursday, April 30, at 7 P.M., teams made up of local citizens, politicians, businesses, educators, police, fire, and other public officials will compete.  The event will be held at the Southington High School Auditorium and the proceeds will help foster educational excellence for our town's public school children.

Al Terzi will be our Bee Master!

Each team will consist of three spellers. Costumes, themes and mascots are encouraged! Participation is $100 per person or $300 per team. Entry fees are fully tax-deductible. 

 

Participants will write their words on a white board.  There will be no microphones for participants.

 

Admission is free; however, we ask that you bring a nonperishable food item as a donation to the Southington Community Services.

Applications for SEF Scholarships are Coming Due!

Application deadlines are fast approaching for Southington Education Foundation's scholarships. For the first time the SEF is offering two individual scholarships to Southington High School graduating seniors.

 

SEF's STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) Scholarship will be awarded to a student with a desire to major or minor in science, technology, engineering or mathematics.  

 

The second scholarship, named in honor of past Superintendent Joseph V. Erardi, Jr. will be awarded to a student who is civic-minded and demonstrates a desire to help school, community, and/or country. 

 

Interested applicants and parents should view the online Scholarship guide at http://southingtonschools.org/page.cfm?p=9077. This site also contains important information about applying for scholarships including qualifying criteria, scholarship forms, and/or contact information. 

 

Scholarships must be postmarked no later than March 7 so do not delay!

YMCA Reaching Out Award
The Southington Education Foundation was honored on January 28th with the Reaching Out Award at the Southington YMCA's Annual Dinner. 

Dr. Martin Semmel, Southington High School principal, presented the award. 


On behalf of the SEF, Alan DeBisschop accepted the Reaching Out Award as well as several proclamations from dignitaries. 

The Foundation has provided financial support to every school in town through 34 different grants and programs distributing over $165,000 through fundraising and donations.
