The Alabama State Department of Education  (ALSDE) announced a process that Local Education Agencies (LEA) must use to apply for funding from the 21st Century Workforce Fund. This process strongly recommends that LEA's have letters of support from Regional Workforce Councils included with their grant request.

For those LEA's located in Southwest Alabama Workforce Development Council's service area (Region 9), in order to obtain a letter of support from SAWDC, please submit a summary of your proposal(s), including at least the abstracts, by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, November 8, 2013.  An electronic copy can be emailed to admin@sawdc.org or you can mail a hard copy to the following address:

SAWDC

Attention: CTE Bond RFP

605 Bel Air Blvd. Suite 32

Mobile, Alabama 36606

The SAWDC Grants Review committee will review the proposals and then make its recommendations to the SAWDC Executive Committee on Friday, November 15, 2013. SAWDC will base its decision on whether or not to endorse each proposal using the same criteria and rubric included in the ALSDE grant package signed by Dr. Bice on October 15, 2013.

 GOWD, SAWDC, & CGIA Host
Region 9 Community Colleges

On Monday, September 30th, the Governor's Office of Workforce Development (GOWD), SAWDC and the Central Gulf Industrial Alliance (CGIA) co-hosted a meeting with five of Region 9's community colleges.  The purpose of the meeting was to formally introduce the CGIA Endorsement Program in an effort to identify and promote industrial construction workforce development programs, which are training to industry standards. The endorsement program will allow CGIA member companies to hire qualified candidates from quality workforce development programs, to which they will have access and contribute.
