City Approves Purchase of New Safety Vehicle

The new Type 3 Rescue Vehicle with decals soon to come.

Westland, MI - Westland residents will soon see a new bright red truck on the road.

City Council approved a bid to purchase a much needed Type 3 Rescue Vehicle for the Wayne Westland Fire Department.

"With customizable options, this new vehicle will be fitted to match the specific needs of our Fire Department, and the bidder Mercy Sales Inc. met the specifications that we were looking for," said Fire Chief Michael J. Reddy.

The total cost of the vehicle came to $140,480.00 and 100 percent of the purchase will come from the 2013-2014 Capital Outlay line item within the Fire Department Budget.

"The safety and well-being of our residents is a top priority of the Administration. Replacing older and exhausted safety vehicles ensures that we have a durable, reliable and fuel efficient fleet and that is a key element of our mission," said Mayor Wild.
