The Wayne - Westland Firefighters Carnival is in Full Swing - The Wayne-Westland Firefighters are hosting their annual carnival throughMay 5, 2013 at 7420 N. Westland Figure Skaters Host Ice Show - The Westland Figure Skating Association presents this year's Ice Show at the Mike Modano Ice Arena, located at 6210 N. Wildwood, on Friday,May 3 - Sunday, May 5.  Tickets and show time information is available by calling the ice arena at (734) 729-4560.

 

The City of Westland in Partnership with the Holliday Nature Preserve Association (HPNA) Hosts Early Bird Rouge Rescue - Volunteers are needed for the Saturday, May 4th Early Bird Rouge Rescue from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Wayne Road Bridge area to help with creek clean-up, invasive plant removal and the paint over of bridge graffiti.  Gloves, trash bags, water, tools, paint supplies, a wash up station and free Friends of the Rouge t-shirt will be provided.  For more information, please contact Kevin Buford at [email protected] or Cyndi Ross at [email protected].  All volunteers MUST pre-register.

 

Westland Celebrates Armed Forces Day - The Sixth Annual Armed Forces Day Celebration will be held on Saturday, May 4 from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Westland Historic Village Park, located at 857 N. Wayne Road.  There will be reenactors of four American wars, a Flag raising ceremony, Fife Demonstration, MRE lecture and a Reenactors Showcase.  Admission is FREE and food and beverages will be available.  Additional parking is available at Dr. Office next door.

 

Wayne County Parks Closes Six Miles of Hines Drive - Saturday's in the Park returns to Hines Drive on Saturday, May 4, 2013.  This program offers visitors the opportunity to walk, run, skate or cycle safely from 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. without the concern of motor vehicle traffic.  Hines drive will be closed every Saturday from Ann Arbor Trail to Outer Drive through September 8, 2013.  For more information, please call (734) 261-1990 or visit www.parks.waynecounty.com.

 

  

 

 

 Scheduled Upcoming Civic Meetings - Residents are invited to attend the upcoming meetings, which are open to the public.  Below is a list of the meetings, along with their date, time and location.

 

 

 

  • The Police & Fire Retirement Board will meet on Monday, May 6 at 5 p.m. in the Police Department Conference Room, located at 36701 Ford Road.
  • The Westland City Council will hold a Study Session on Monday, May 6 at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers of City Hall, located at 36601 Ford Road, to discuss a DDA project.
  • The Westland City Council Meeting will be held on Monday, May 6 at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers of City Hall, located at 36601 Ford Road.
  • The Westland Planning Commission will meet on Wednesday, May 8 at 7:30 in the Council Conference Room, located at 36601 Ford Road.
  • The Westland Library Board will hold their monthly meeting on Wednesday, May 8 at 7 p.m. at the William P. Faust Public Library, located at 6123 Central City Parkway.

 

Westland Welcomes Sparks Towing to Westland - The City of Westland is pleased to welcome Sparks Towing to 34043 Ford Road.  A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held on Wednesday, May 8th at 4 p.m. to celebrate their grand opening.

 

Wayne-Westland Schools Host WWII USO Dance - The Wayne-Westland School District invites you to celebrate the 68th Anniversary of the victory in Europe at the John Glenn High School Cafeteria, located at 36105 Marquette, on Wednesday, May 8th at 6 p.m.  There will be WWII vehicles by the Detroit Arsenal of Democracy Museum, a display of WWII propaganda posters, a tribute to WWII veterans and defense workers and much more.  The event will be emceed by radio personality Jim Harper. 

 

Westland Farmer's Market Returns with New Day and Time - The Westland Farmer's Market has returned for the 2013 season.  The Westland Farmers Market will be held every Thursday from 3 - 7 p.m. in the City Hall parking lot, located at 36601 Ford Road.  This is the ultimate site for farmers, growers and producers to sell their own products directly to the public.  For more information, please visit www.cityofwestland.com or call Lori Fodale, Economic Development Director at 734-467-3264.

 

DIA Inside-Out Program Continues with Tour de Westland - The City of Westland invites you to visit each DIA art site throughout the City on Saturday, May 11th beginning at 10 a.m.  Participants can start the tour wherever they like and end at the Westland Charhouse where coupons for a discounted lunch will be handed out and there will be a raffle for participants that visited all six art locations.  For more information, including the address for art sites, please visit http://cityofwestland.com/dia.

 

DTE Garden Ready for Kick-Off after Rain Delay - The City of Westland and DTE Energy invite all ages and all levels of gardeners to join them on Saturday, May 11th from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. for Westland's 4th Annual Community Garden Kick-Off, located at 38155 Cherry Hill Road.  The event will include preparing vegetable beds, seeding, transplanting and mulching.  Snacks and drinks will be provided.  Please RSVP at (734) 545-2758. 

 

Help Stamp Out Hunger - The National Association of Letter Carriers will host a food drive on Saturday, May 11th to help Stamp Out Hunger.  Residents are encouraged to put non-perishable food donations in a bag by the mailbox that will then be delivered to a local food bank.

Mom 2 Mom Sale to be held at Wayne-Westland Recreation Center - Visit the Wayne-Westland Recreation Center, located at 4635 Howe Road in Wayne, on Saturday, May 11th from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. for the Mom 2 Mom Sale for the opportunity to purchase gently used children's clothing and shoes, maternity and nursery items, baby equipment and toys, outdoor play equipment, books and more.  For more information, please call (734)721-7400.

 

Wayne - Westland Parks & Recreation Offers Summer Kickball Leagues - Registration has begun for Summer Kickball Leagues at Anderson Ball Fields at Attwood Park in Wayne.  The cost is $200/team and must be paid in full at time of registration.  All teams must register at the Wayne Community Center by Monday, June 3, 2013.  Games will start the week of June 10, 2013.  For more information or to register, please call (734) 721-7400.
