Westland, MI -Mayor William R. Wild, the Wayne-Westland School District and Fifth Third Bank have come together once again to match individuals between the ages of 16-18 who are Westland residents or are students in the Wayne/Westland School District with employment opportunities for 6 weeks during the summer. As part of the program participants will be required to work a minimum of 16 hours per week making at least minimum wage and will be challenged to set financial and personal goals. Those who successfully complete the program requirements, and attend the program's celebration dinner will be entered in a drawing to win a FREE iPad2, courtesy of Fifth Third Bank.
"Last year was the second year for this terrific program and we are pleased to report that a majority of the students that participated were hired on permanently following the completion of the program, stated Mayor Wild "This is an excellent opportunity for teenagers to learn the value of good work ethic and the importance of saving for their future."
Students that are accepted into the program will be required to attend the Hiring Expo on June 6, 2013 at the Westland Public Library at 6:00 p.m. where you will interview with you potential employer. If hired, you expected to participate in the program orientation and financial literacy training presented by Fifth Third Bank.
Wild About Youth, founded in 2007 by Mayor Wild, is a task force made up of City officials and residents to provide opportunities for the youth of the City of Westland. The Wild About Youth Works! program helps the youth of our community find a summer job and teaches them not only work skills but also financial skills as they learn set goals for their earnings.
