Happy Holidays from Southern District YMCA!

The year may be coming to a close, but Southern District YMCA volunteers and staff have been working hard to continue strong community programs and support exciting new growth.

In a testimony to the tradition of YMCA Camp Lincoln, a record number of summer camp registrations were received before March 1. Volunteers built new stairs, painted cabins and blazed new trails. There was also no shortage of weddings at camp, a venue growing in popularity for events.

YMCA School Age Child Care continues to grow and thrive as students in each of our 16 locations throughout SAU 16 and beyond encourage their friends to join these before and after school programs. Parents enjoy confidence that their children receive a healthy snack, physical activity, homework time and social connections.

Southern District YMCA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, reliant upon charitable donations to deliver its mission. Southern District YMCA programs are open to all, regardless of ability to pay. In 2014, more than 100 children received financial assistance made possible by donations to the Annual Scholarship Campaign.

Programs and services will broaden in 2015 when the new YMCA facility in Exeter opens in the fall. This two-story, 33,000 square foot building will serve all ages, abilities and interests with programs for a healthy mind, body and spirit. Under the leadership of the Capital Campaign Chair, Gary Blake, community volunteers are operating a capital campaign that has now reached 65% of its $5M goal. Every dollar donated to the Exeter area YMCA is committed 100% to paying for the cost of the building.

We are looking forward to a great 2015!

Construction Update

The ground is frozen one day and thawed the next, but work continues at 56 Linden Street in Exeter. Many of the wall form panels were installed in the second week of December - despite the weather. Better conditions this week meant that concrete could be poured for the perimeter foundation.
