Crop & Field Notes

A Sprinkle of Rain and the Seasons are Changing

The rain showers last Saturday were Mother Nature's way to mark the seasonal transition. It washed the dust off the plants and when I woke to a clear blue sky on Sunday morning, the day of the Fall Equinox, the landscape felt refreshed, the colors brilliant, not the lush greens of spring but the browns, reds and yellows of Fall.  It's a lot more challenging to let go of Summer than it is of Spring.  Summer is about celebrating growth, and one feels confident that life is abundant. Fall lets us know things are about to change.   Continue reading on our web site

CSA & Farm News

Soon it will be time to renew your CSA Partnership with Live Earth Farm
I want to give everyone a heads-up that next week, as we always do at this time of year, we will open the registration for 2013-14 Winter and Main Season CSA memberships.
I want to remind and reassure everyone that your participation and commitment plays a fundamental role in the health of the Farm; it is directly woven into the life of this land, its people, plants, animals, and soil.  Like planting and sowing seeds in the field to ensure an abundant harvest, this is the time when we "plant the seeds" to ensure that the life-cycle of our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program continues healthy, vibrant and abundant. The CSA is, in essence, who we are as a Farm.

Community Farm Day

Dry-farmed Tomato U-Harvest
Saturday, September 28
10:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Due to continued popular demand, great weather, and plenty of ripe dry-farmed tomatoes, we're going to keep the Saturday U-Harvests going through the end of September. So bring family and friends for a farm outing to harvest and explore the fields, enjoying the seasonal transition from summer into fall. This is your chance to preserve some of the summer flavors we know you'll enjoy during the cool dark months of winter.
