Deborah Karp

Luna Dance Institute is pleased to announce that Deborah Karp has accepted a teaching

position on our faculty.

Deborah brings her passion for movement investigation, creative somatic inquiry and love of community-building through dance to her work as a teaching artist, choreographer and performer. She has taught with Jacob's Pillow Curriculum in Motion, San Francisco Ballet's Dance In Schools and Communities program, University of San Francisco and in Honduras with Arte Accin. Her choreography has been presented in theaters and site-specific locations throughout New York City and the Bay Area. Deborah was a seven-year member of the Nancy Meehan Dance Company and has also performed the work of Susan Rethorst and Liz Lerman Dance Exchange, among others. Her article Choreographer in the Classroom: At the Intersection of Dance and Academic Curriculum, was published in In Dance in May of 2013. Deborah holds a Bachelor of Dance Arts from the University of Michigan.

We first met Deborah when she presented her work in Luna's 20th anniversary 20/20 Choreographer's showcase. She was one of the 12 participants selected to participate in Luna's Summer Institute 2012 and interned with MPACT during the 2012-13 year. Deborah demonstrates a deep capacity for thought, empathy and action and we are pleased that she will be sharing her skills with our team. In 2013-14, Deborah will work for Luna as a teaching artist in the MPACT, SCA and Studio Lab programs and coordinate the MPACT
project.
