Education and Training Boards Ireland (ETBI)and North Kildare Chamber are pleased to invite you to the second Business Education Forum, jointly organised by both bodies. This theme is a topical subject and you will have a chance to ask questions of the panel of speakers, who will first address the audience for 7-8 minutes maximum. Details of the Forum are

Biographies of speakers and Modertator

 

  

Des Kavanagh, Managing Director of Jungheinrich Ireland, starting with the company in August 1996, employed initially as an engineer, and then moved into sales. When the opportunity arose he secured the sales managers position and graduated to Managing Director in 2005. Before he moved to Jungheinrich, he had ten years' experience in the aircraft industry.

Des graduated in Engineering from DIT Bolton Street. He is married with three children.

Eileen O'Riordan is Director of Human Resources, Pfizer Newbridge. Eileen has worked in the Pharmaceutical Industry for 17 years, working for a variety of multinationals.

She is a frequent guest lecturer on degree, MSc and MBA courses such as organizational behaviour, learning & development, change management and human resource management at University College Cork and the National University Ireland Galway in the J.E. Cairnes School of Business and Economics. 

Eileen earned her MSc in Human Resource Development and Performance Management from the University of Leicester. She also holds a Graduate Diploma in Training and Development from University of Limerick, along with a Graduate Diploma in Coaching from Ashridge Business School UK.  

Eileen is a native of Cork and now lives in Newbridge.

Paul O'Toole has recently been appointed by the board of F�S as its new Director General. According to Tanaiste and Enterprise and Employment Minister Mary Coughlan, Mr O'Toole has been charged with re-focusing the agency to respond to the economic challenges now facing Ireland.

Before joining F�S, Mr O'Toole had been Chief Executive of Tourism Ireland since July 2001, which was established under the Terms of the Good Friday Agreement and operates under the auspices of the North/South Ministerial Council. He took over responsibility for the overseas promotion of tourism to the Island from the former Bord F�ilte and the Northern Ireland Tourist Board. His efforts to expand Ireland's share of the high-spending segments of the global tourism market were regarded as particularly successful - with golf-related tourism massively expanding over the past decade.

Mr O'Toole is a highly committed individual with 18 years of senior management experience including seven and a half years in his role as CEO of Tourism Ireland. He has had extensive exposure to both public and private sectors with significant experience of working with the political system, Government Departments and public and private sectors in both jurisdictions. Mr O'Toole is a native of Co. Wicklow. He is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and holds a Master of Business Studies degree from the UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate School of Business.

The son of Irish migrants, Professor Bernard Mahon grew up in London's East End but rose to become a prominent scientist in the biomedical area at NUI Maynooth. In 2000, Professor Mahon became scientific director of the newly established Irish Institute of Immunology and was instrumental in attracting the funding for the €16m research facility. He has secured and developed a number of patents which have found application in healthcare practice. He has a number of long standing collaborations with Irish, European and US industrial partners as a scientific partner and as a foresight consultant. He continues to teach courses to undergraduates and post graduates in Maynooth and as a guest in other Universities and has mentored over a dozen scientific investigators to doctoral level. Since February 2013 Professor Mahon has been Vice-President for Research at NUI Maynooth.

Clem Ryan is a founding member of the consortium which set up regional radio station Kfm in 2003. He is a shareholder and CEO/Executive Director of the station. 

Clem has worked in radio since 1990 as a GAA reporter/commentator with RTE Radio 1, Raidio na Gaeltachta and the BBC. He won the GAA's McNamee National Media award in 1998 and the FAI Communications Award (Radio) in 2011.

He currently presents Kildare Today, Kfm's daily flagship current affairs programme which features a diverse range of topics that mirror daily life in County Kildare and across the nation. He also presents Ceol agus Caint, Kfm's traditional and folk music programme. He continues to contribute to various RTE and TG4 sports programmes.
