Rep. Chris Welch Calls for Maywood Library to Reopen Immediately!

MAYWOOD, IL - State Rep. Emanuel "Chris" Welch, D-Hillside, will hold a press conference on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 3:00pm outside the Maywood Public Library located at 121 S. Fifth Avenue in Maywood to address the library closing its doors on October 26 and efforts to reopen the facility.

"The Maywood Public Library provides a safe space for our children to learn, and it serves as a resource to all residents in Maywood, " Welch said.  "We are doing a disservice to our community when we don't prioritize spending, leaving those that are most in need to shoulder the burden."

According to the Maywood Public Library District website, the library has been open since 1874.  More than 3,500 people use the library's computer center and job center each month, and more than 30 local groups use its facilities for community meetings.

Rep. Welch will be joined at the press conference by Maywood Mayor Edwenna Perkins and other elected officials.  Officials from Sea Way National Bank will also be on hand to answer questions from the media.

Rep. Welch serves communities in the 7th Representative District including all or portions of Bellwood, Berkeley, Broadview, Forest Park, Hillside, Maywood, Melrose Park, Northlake, La Grange Park, River Forest, Westchester, and Western Springs.

For more information, please contact Rep. Welch at (708) 450-1000 or via email at [email protected].
