Anthem buys Coral Gables-based Simply Healthcare for estimated $1 billion
|
Simply Healthcare Holdings, a Coral Gables-based managed care company (with additional offices in Sunrise and Tampa), has sold to Anthem, Inc., a publicly traded health insurer with headquarters in Indianapolis, for an estimated $1 billion.
The two companies confirmed the deal but would not release the final sales price. An industry source with knowledge of the deal valued the purchase at about $1 billion.
Founded in 2010, Simply Healthcare covers more than 192,000 Floridians on Medicare and Medicaid in 60 Florida counties through two affiliates, Simply Healthcare Plans and Better Health. It also offers Clear Health Alliance, a Medicaid specialty plan available in Florida for people with HIV/AIDS.
Anthem, formerly known as WellPoint, Inc., offers coverage in 26 states, including in Florida through its affiliate Amerigroup, company spokeswoman Kristin Binns said.
Both companies said policyholders should expect no changes to their health coverage.

Mrs. Claus Gets Mammogram in SensorySuite at Boca Raton Regional Hospital
|
Amid final preparations for another busy holiday season, Mrs. Claus made a stop at Boca Raton Regional Hospital for her annual mammogram. Santa's better half underwent her screening inside the SensorySuite by GE Healthcare, an interactive mammography experience designed to stimulate the senses of sight, smell and hearing with three unique environmental ambiances.
The Christine E. Lynn Women's Health & Wellness Institute at Boca Regional is the first in Florida to offer the SensorySuite, in which women can choose to have their mammogram surrounded by a virtual beach, garden or waterfall to help alleviate any perceived discomfort, pain or anxiety from the screening.
Ever the snowbird, Mrs. Claus selected the 'beach' sensory experience. She was also excited about the Institute's same-day results, which meant she could head right back up to the North Pole before her husband awoke from his afternoon power nap.
"We're delighted that Mrs. Claus chose us as the destination program for her mammogram," said Kathy Schilling, MD, Medical Director of The Christine E. Lynn Women's Health & Wellness Institute at Boca Regional.
