Parents in Action Workhsop - Parents, here's your chance to learn something new while your child has a fun playtime! The William P. Faust Westland Public Library is hosting a free two hour parent support workshop which includes using your newly learned skills.  This workshop will take place on Monday, February 2 at 9:30 a.m.  This program is presented by Starfish Family Services.  Take-home activities provided as an additional resource. This month's topic is: Let's Be Friends! (#23) Participants will identify how a young child's thinking and reasoning impacts their social relationships as well as ways to help children learn about others. Participants will explore environmental strategies to encourage friendships and practice interaction strategies that support social learning. Bring your children, as FREE childcare is provided by Starfish's daycare professionals. The library is located at 6123 Central City Parkway.

 

 

Scheduled Upcoming Civic Meetings - Residents are invited to attend the upcoming City meetings.  Below is a list of the meetings with their date, time and location. 

 

-The Westland City Council will meet on Monday, February 2 at 7:00 p.m. at Westland City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Rd.

-There will be a meeting of the Municipal Service Bureau Board on Thursday, February 5 at 5:30 p.m. at Westland City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Rd.

 

Writers Workshop - The William P. Faust Westland Public Library will be holding its Writers Workshop on Thursday, February 5 at 7:00 p.m.  The Writers Workshop critiques an individual's writing in a workshop setting. All genres accepted (fiction, poetry, memoir, etc.). They will tell you what is working with your piece, as well as what needs improvement. The goal of the group is to help writers get published. You must attend one session before your writing will be reviewed.  The library is located at 6123 Central City Parkway.

 

Friday Night Glow Skate - The Mike Modano Ice Arena has re-opened for the season and Friday Night Glow Skate is back.  Glow skate will run every Friday from 7:00 p.m. to 9:20 p.m. and will cost $4 for kids and $5 for adults for residents.  The cost is 50 cents more for non-resident.  Glow in the dark accessories will be available for purchase in the pro shop.  The Ice Arena is located at 6210 Wildwood.

 

North American Belgian Beer Fest - It has been a local Belgian Beer event in Westland  for five years and is now deemed the biggest in North America.  More than 200 varieties of craft beer from more than 80 different Belgian breweries will be available to attendees of the North American Belgian Beer Festival (NABBF) on Saturday, February 7,  hosted by Ashley's Beer & Grill, 7525 N. Wayne Rd.  The one-day NABBF is a greatly expanded version of last year's successful Belgian Bottle Festival, part of the annual Ashley's Belgian Beer Festival, now in its fifth year. The Festival is the largest of its kind, composed exclusively of beers imported from Belgium, a country widely recognized by experts as one of the most important beer countries in the world.  Attendees will have the opportunity not only to sample many unique specialty and boutique brews but also to pair them with a menu of Belgian-inspired cuisine. Belgian beer experts will be on hand to help educate and guide guests through the amazing diversity and complexity of the Belgian beer world.
