Sen. and Judge John "Dickie" Crosby of Tifton was named to the Chamber's "Wall of Honor," and the audience applauded the news that Hobby Lobby, an arts and crafts store, is coming to Tifton this year.
In addition to Crosby -- whose picture will go on the Chamber's Wall of Honor -- Dr. Joe Turner, a longtime civic volunteer who was instrumental in starting what became Affinity health clinic,  received the Stafford Award. Phil and Susan Perlis, owners and operators of The Big Store in Downtown Tifton, were named the John Hunt Entrepreneur of the Year.
Jane Freeman Phillips was named Prince Business Woman of the Year; Chris Bedore, the Chamber Ambassador of the Year; and Chris Cutts received the J. Lamar Branch Award. Joe West of Tifton's UGA campus took the reins as Chamber chairman from outgoing chairman Mike Davis of First Community Bank.
During the meeting, Chamber President/CEO Brian Marlowe announced that Hobby Lobby will be open in Tifton later this year in time for Christmas. Hobby Lobby is a retailer with more than 600 stores nationwide that specialize in arts and crafts supplies, picture framing and other hobby-related supplies.

CITY HALL OFFICES RETURN TO MYON
City Hall staff will begin moving back to the Myon next week!
Tifton city offices have returned to the Historic Myon Complex on First Street in Downtown Tifton.  Actually, customer service offices are now open at the Myon and other offices are in the process of moving back into the renovated City Hall building.
City officials say the full move will take a couple more weeks.
The city moved out of the Myon building during the spring of 2011 when it was told that the city hall offices there were structurally unsound and were unsafe both for employees and for the public.
City  Hall was then relocated to the former fire hall on North Ridge Avenue.
Initial estimates for the Myon repairs were $4 million to more than $5 million. Other opinions and bids were sought.
City Council ultimately awarded a $2.2 million bid to Anderson Construction of Fort Gaines.
The repairs took more than a year to complete.

TURNER'S BUDGET FURNITURE RIBBON-CUTTING
Turner's Budget Furniture held its Grand Reopening ribbon cutting Tuesday for its newly remodeled location on Highway 82 East with members of the Tifton-Tift County Chamber of Commerce and store representatives in attendance. "We are excited about the completely remodeled Turner's Budget Furniture location in Tifton," said Austin Turner. "It will allow us to better serve our customers with a larger selection and a better presentation. We are thankful to all of our loyal customers for allowing us to grow and expand."

WINTER PLANT AND SEED SWAP ON SATURDAY
This weekend spring will seem closer than it feels with the Fourth Annual Wiregrass Farmers Market Winter Plant and Seed Swap.
On Saturday, Jan. 31, from 9:30-11 a.m., folks may visit the Georgia Museum of Agriculture lobby and exchange, give away, bring and/or take home plants, seeds and shared gardening tips.
Attendees can learn how to make their own seed tapes for planting in a row and may bring their dull garden tools and have them sharpened for free by a friendly market farmer.
Breakfast refreshments and freshly brewed market favorite Roaster's Edge Coffee will be available for a small donation.

NIGHT OF CHORAL MUSIC ON FEB. 3
The First Tuesday Concert Series features "A Night of Choral Music" on Feb. 3 at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of All Faiths at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. The concert is free and open to the public.
The First Tuesday series, now in its 14th year, features regional professional artists on the first Tuesdays of five months during the year. Dr. Susan Roe, director of music for the School of Liberal Arts, is the First Tuesday program director.
"A Night of Choral Music" will feature The Sine Nomine Singers. Roe said the unusual title for the group means "without name." She said the Singers were created to provide choral singing opportunities and challenging choral works for local singers.
