Catholic Events on Campus
August 2013
Greetings!

Happy August!

We're in the last stretch of the summer before the Fall term kicks off...I hope you're enjoying every minute of it!

It was exciting to see all the events of World Youth Day unfold, and to know that some of Newman's own were right there in that crowd of 3.5 million who welcomed Pope Francis to Rio. Check out Salt and Light's World Youth Day Central coverage of all the events from Rio. You can even see our own Newman Catholic Student Club President, Christina Alaimo, posing a question to Archbishop Mark Coleridge at one of the catechesis sessions (see more on that below!).

This year, we're also looking for help with welcoming new and returning students during our Frosh week (and post-Frosh week) activities. If you're interested in helping out, please send me an email, or stop by Newman and see how you can get involved this year in spreading the Gospel of Christ on campus!

Here's more of what's happening in and around Newman...

Come and Help with Orientation Week Activities!

Orientation week

We are currently looking for students who are interested in taking a shift (or shifts!) during Orientation Week to invite new an returning students to get involved in the Newman community. The more help we have, the more students we can reach!

If you are interested in helping, we will be offering training sessions from 2:30-3:30 pm and 7-8 pm (you choose the one that best fits your schedule) on Tuesday, September 3 here at the Newman Centre. They will help you to learn or brush up on cold conversation skills, as well as give you an opportunity to hear what we'll be offering this year that the students you talk to might be interested in.

Interested? Contact Erin Kinsella to sign up for a shift!

Newman Students at World Youth Day
Christina WYD

Christina Alaimo, President of the Newman Catholic Student Club, posed a great question to Archbishop Coleridge of Brisbane during one of the catechesis sessions in Rio. You can hear Christina's question and the Archbishop's answer at the 1 hour 58 minute mark of Salt and Light's coverage of the session

Interested in getting involved with the Newman Catholic Students Club this year? They offer many opportunities to gather and meet others who are passionate about their Catholic faith. Contact Christina for more information!

Have a great rest of the summer!

God bless you!
