Maryland Department of the Environment Secretary Robert M. Summers announced six new Leadership Award winners at the fourth annual Registry Awards on June 11th in Annapolis. The Registry partnered with Annapolis Green Drinks for an evening of networking and information sharing. 

Learn more about this year's leadership winners through their online member profiles and the summaries linked below. You'll see that all share these important traits: 1) strong organizational commitment, 2) effective green teams, 3) annual goals and 4) the measurement and monitoring of their initiatives. These elements are truly a recipe for success no matter what the type or size of an organization. If your facility doesn't have a green team, start one!  We have tips to get you started and many Maryland Green Registry members who would be happy to share their experiences - starting with our award winners...

The other big announcement from Tuesday night was the collective annual measurable results of all Maryland Green Registry members as reported through their profiles. For the fourth straight year, members have reported greater efficiency in resource use and other improvements in their environmental performance. See below how the efforts you make everyday at your facility add up.

Each year, Maryland Green Registry members prove that the path to sustainability is a team effort, both at the facility level and at the broader community level.  The results below were achieved by Maryland Green Registry members on an annual basis between 2012 and 2013. The biggest jumps over last year's numbers were reductions in vehicle miles traveled, increased water conservation and dollars saved. Help us capture all you're doing for next year's totals by updating your profile with any new projects and results.

  • 603,000 lbs of hazardous waste reduced 
  • 11.8  million lbs of nonhazardous waste reduced
  • 532 million lbs of non-hazardous waste recycled 
  • 2.7 million gallons of wastewater reduced
  • 446,000 gallons of fuel saved
  • 9.8  million vehicle miles traveled (VMT) reduced
  • 441 million kWh electricity saved
  • 517 million gallons of water conserved
  • 2.0  million metric tons carbon dioxide equivalent (MTCO2e) reduced
  • $74  million saved! 
Look the for the Logo Contest Winners and Prizes

Logo ContestWindows and websites, T-shirts and trucks, lobbies and laptops ... Maryland Green Registry logos have been showing up all sorts of places and we thank everyone who shared photos of where they were displaying the logo.  All Look for the Logo Contest entries were displayed in a slide show at the June 11 event and entered into a drawing for prizes donated by the following very generous Maryland Green Registry members:
