Eanes Community Newsletter
Back to School 2013

Welcome Back!

Welcome back students, parents and staff of the Eanes Independent School District! I hope that you have had a great start to the school year!

Our students and staff have hit the ground running, and I've already seen wonderful examples of learning through collaboration, innovative classrooms and inspired students. One of these examples was captured in a recent news story, which shows how relatively simple changes in paint and furniture can help transform a classroom and a child's learning experience. You can watch the story online here.

We are excited to share the proposed concepts for the 10-year Facilities Master Plan, which were presented at the September 10th community meeting.  Committees of parents, students, staff and community members have worked with the master planners for more than eight months to discuss a variety of district-wide approaches across the elementary and secondary levels. Throughout the process, program capacities, flexible learning spaces, site limitations and facility assessments have all been factored into the designs. You can view the proposed concepts online, as well as provide comments or feedback.

I encourage everyone in our community to attend the October 8th board meeting, where we will finalize plans and determine cost estimates. Whether you have children in our schools or not, this is an important opportunity to see the future plans for our schools, as we move towards 21st Century learning environments to help our students succeed.

Thank you for supporting our students and staff, and we hope to see you in October!

Sincerely,

Nola H. Wellman

Superintendent of Schools

FMP Proposed Concepts Presented

All Schools, District, Earn Top Marks

Eanes ISD and all nine of campuses achieved the highest rating of "Met Standard" in accountability ratings released by the Texas Education Agency. This year's newly-designed system designated schools as "Met Standard" or "Improvement Required," based on several factors: student achievement on State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) tests administered last spring, student progress (improvement), success in closing performance gaps, and post-secondary readiness (for districts and high schools only).

Westlake High School also earned all three possible distinctions (Academic Achievement in Reading/ELA, Academic Achievement in Mathematics, and Top 25 Percent Student Progress), one of just 152 high schools in the state to do so.

Online Student Directory Information
Not finding your family in the district's online directory? Review the following to make sure you've completed BOTH steps. For instructions with screenshots, see link below.
  1. You must have selected the "Yes" option for Local during the Enrollment Verification process AND
  2. You must check the "Add My Family Listing to the School Directory" box once logged into Family Access
If you did not select "Yes" for the Local option during the enrollment verification process, your child will not show in the online directory regardless of your directory display options. If you cannot make the change yourself while logged in, please contact your child's school.

Attendance Notifications Implemented

New this school year, Eanes ISD has implemented an attendance notification system for all of its campuses. When a student is absent from school, automated calls and emails will be sent based on information checked in Skylert to receive attendance notifications.

Attendance notifications are made as a safety precaution, so that parents can know if their student has made it safely to school. In cases of doctor's appointments, illness or excused absences, parents should ensure the school is aware of the situation.

For more information, including attendance notification FAQ's and what time your campus calls are scheduled, please click here.
