Get Your Tickets for the Kelly Miller Circus - The Kelly Miller Circus is coming to Attwood Park, located at 33601 Annapolis, on Saturday, August 10th for two shows.  The first show will begin at 2 p.m. followed by an evening show at 5:30 p.m.  Tickets are on sale at the following locations: Wayne Westland Community Center, Mark Chevrolet, Jack Demmer Ford, Henry's Service Center, Wayne-Westland Federal Credit Union and the Westland Municipal Golf Course.

 

Western Wayne County's 9th Annual Senior Olympics -  Western Wayne County is holding its 9th Annual Senior Olympics August 12th-16th.  The Opening ceremony will be held on Monday, August 12th at Nankin Mills Field located on Hines Dr. south of Ann Arbor Trail. Events will be held all over Western Wayne County and include a football throw, trivia, pinochle, Wii bowling, marksmanship and a bean bag toss which will be held at The Friendship Center located at 1119 N. Newburgh Rd.  Registration for events is now closed but the public is welcome to come cheer on community participants.  For more information contact The Friendship Center at (734)722-7628. 

 

Westland Police Department Holds 21st Annual Golf Classic -The Westland Police Department will be having it's 21st Annual Golf Classic on Tuesday, August 13 at Hickory Creek Golf Course located at 3625 Napier Rd in Ypsilanti, MI.  Shotgun start is at 9 a.m.   Entry is $100 per person and includes a continental breakfast, lunch at the turn and a buffet dinner.  Proceeds will benefit the Westland Police Community Partnership Committee.  For more information call Sgt. Summer Concert at Goudy Park- The Wayne/Westland Parks and Recreation Department invites you to enjoy a concert on Wednesday, August 14th from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Goudy Park.  The band that is performing is The Gemini which is a 60's and kids music band who is sponsored by Rotary Civitans & Ripple Effect.  Please bring the family and enjoy some great summer music and fun.
 
Red Wagon Picnic - The Red Wagon Picnic will be held at The Dorsey Center located at 32715 Dorsey on Wednesday, August 14th from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.  The picnic will celebrate the end of summer and the Red Wagon Program.  The program provides new books and supplies to Norwayne children throughout the summer.  Volunteers deliver books in red wagons throughout the neighborhood.  The picnic includes lunch, more books and a special guest- the police dog.
 

Scheduled Upcoming Civic Meetings - Residents are invited to attend the upcoming City meetings.  Below is a list of the meetings with their date, time and location.

 - The Westland Police and Fire Civil Service Commission will hold a meeting on Wednesday, August 14th at 8 a.m.  The meeting will be held in Council Chambers in Westland's City Hall located at 33601 Ford Rd.

 - The Library Board will be holding a meeting at the William P. Faust Public Library located at 6123 Central City Pkwy on Wednesday, August 14th at 7 p.m.

-  The Nankin Transit Commission will be holding a meeting on August 15, 2013 in the Police Department Conference Room located at 36701 Ford Rd. at 5:45 p.m.

 

Westland Farmer's Market Held Every Thursday - The Westland Farmer's Market will be held from 3 - 7 p.m. every Thursday in the City Hall Parking Lot, located at 36601 Ford Road.  This is the ultimate site for farmers, growers and producers to sell their own products directly to the public.  Residents now have the opportunity to catch a FREE ride to the market at the following locations and times. *All times are approximate and dependent on weather, traffic, available space, etc.

Cyclists, Skaters, Runners & Walkers Enjoy Hines Park Traffic Free - Saturday's in the Park have returned to Hines Drive and offers visitors the opportunity to walk, run, skate or cycle safely from 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. without the concern of motor vehicle traffic.  Hines Drive will be closed every Saturday from Ann Arbor Trail to Outer Drive through September 8, 2013.  For more information, please call (734) 261-1990 or visit www.parks.waynecounty.com.

Westland Hosts Household Hazardous Waste Collection - Westland Residents may utilize the countywide Household Hazardous Waste Collection scheduled by Wayne County's Department of Public Services on Saturday, August, 24 at the Westland Shopping Center parking lot, located at 35000 Warren Road (lot behind JCPenney's).  The collection runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and items that will be accepted include household paints, stains, lawn and garden chemicals, old computers and tv's, antifreeze and several other items.  Pharmaceutical waste (non-controlled substances only) and medical sharps in puncture-proof containers will also be accepted.  All waste must be from residential sources only.  For more information, please call 734-326-3936.
