2015-16 Baldrige Criteria Seminar with Mark Blazey - February 18 & 19, 2015

The Baldrige Excellence Framework empowers organizations of all sizes, in all sectors and industries, to reach their goals, improve their results, and become more competitive.

The Baldrige Framework--also known as the Criteria for Performance Excellence--drives an organization-wide perspective that optimizes an entire system rather than just focusing on pockets of excellence. Our popular Criteria seminar uses lecture, exercises, interactive discussion and case studies to help you put the power of the Baldrige management system to work in your organization.

Individuals and organizations with some familiarity with the Baldrige Framework as practitioners, examiners and/or applicants will find this seminar of high value, especially organizations planning on submitting a WFA or Baldrige application within the next two years.

Led by Mark Blazey, a nationally-recognized Criteria expert, this two- day seminar will provide a detailed analysis of all seven Categories and will help you hone competencies needed to complete or review a WFA or Baldrige application.

Highlights of What You'll Learn:

  • The key concepts, values and framework of the new 2015-2016 Baldrige Excellence Framework, including significant changes from the 2013-2014 Criteria.
  • How the Framework relates to all sizes and types of organizations, including not-for-profit, government, military, education, business, manufacturing, service and health care.
  • Criteria Categories and Items: What they are, what they mean and how they are linked.
  • Real-world examples of how organizations have succeeded using the Baldrige framework--and the consequences of not adapting to change.
  • A comparative overview of the new Business, Health Care and Education Criteria.
  • Writing a national Baldrige or state quality award application in a logical and understandable way.
  • NEW in 2015: Mark will cover techniques for responding to the new Criteria in a written application, including Wisconsin Forward Award's 50-page narrative, Challenger Profile and Fast Forward applications. He will also introduce the Baldrige Express assessment.

Learn about the Criteria and how it can improve performance and outcomes that drive tangible results for organizations across all sectors and industries. Space is limited for this seminar. Registration closes February 11, 2015.  For more information or to register, click here.

WCPE is tentatively planning to repeat this seminar on June 23-24, 2015, and January 26 -27, 2016.  Email [email protected] to be added to the mailing list.

A-D-L-I workshop - March 27, 2015

This new half-day workshop will address the "A-D-L-I" Concept of writing and scoring the Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence for state or national quality award applications. Organizations writing a Fast Forward application or their first 50-page narrative application will find this workshop of high value.

ADLI is an acronym for "Approach," "Deployment," "Learning," and "Integration."  WFA and Baldrige examiners use these four factors in evaluating and scoring Process Categories 1 through 6. The workshop will explore how A-D-L-I applies to each category; how examiners consider and analyze each factor for scoring in each category and how A-D-L-I fits into the Organizational Profile and Results sections. The workshop will be structured with presentation and group discussion, use of examples to demonstrate application, and exercises to reinforce the concepts and the examples. Examples and reference materials will also be distributed to participants, including a copy of the new Baldrige Excellence Builder, and a copy of the 2015-16 Criteria for Performance Excellence.

The workshop will be delivered by two individuals who have authored multiple Baldrige Award winning applications and served as examiners and judges' for Wisconsin Forward Award and the national Baldrige program. Roy Bauer served as a lead judge for the Malcom Baldrige National Awards Program and Julie Furst-Bowe currently serves on the Board of Overseers for the Program.

WFA Examiner Spotlight

Sue Semrow was recently honored at the WFA Gala as our 2014 Examiner of the Year. When she is not leading a WFA team, Sue is the Patient Safety Coordinator for ProHealth Care in Waukesha, WI. She has proudly served on the WFA Board of Examiners since 2003 and as a Team Leader since 2008. We caught up with Sue recently, and asked her about her Examiner experience, and for any advice she might give to someone exploring the examiner role.

On becoming an Examiner...
My advice to anyone who is thinking about becoming an Examiner is to do it!  It is one of the most rewarding experiences that allows for both personal and professional growth. It's true that it takes a fair amount of time, but the quality of work that is completed by the Examiner Team and the personal learning and growth that is achieved cannot be matched.

WCPE has continually worked with the Examiners to improve the processes involved to make the work less time consuming without compromising the integrity of the feedback report. I always tell my new examiners to "trust the process" (probably my favorite quote) because it (the process) works every time.

Being an Examiner with WFA also offers a great opportunity to network with exceptional people from across the state in all types of industry and jobs. It is a privilege to get to know them and I am proud to consider many as friends.

Thank you Sue, and ProHealth Care for continuing to support Sue's involvement in the Wisconsin Forward Award program.

What does Craigslist have to do with the Baldrige Criteria?

Okay WFA examiners... you should be able to answer this before reading the article. For those of you who are new to Baldrige, the answer to the question lies in "blind spots" a term first introduced in the 2005 Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence. Read more to find out how utilizing the Criteria can strengthen your organization and avoid blind spots.
