February 2015 CMH Heart Institute Clinic Heart Screening
The CMH Heart Institute Clinic will offer a Heart Health Screening event on Friday, February 20 from 7 - 10 a.m. The screening includes 6 tests for only $70, as well as personalized counseling by CMH staff. Tests performed:
- Blood Pressure: Measures the pressure of the blood against the walls of the arteries. High blood pressure increases the risk of heart attack and stroke.
- 12-lead Electrocardiogram (ECG): A simple and quick procedure that measures the electrical activity of the heart and screens for many types of heart disease.
- Body Mass Index and Body Fat Percentage: BMI assesses your body weight relative to height, and your body fat percentage is determined by a Body Fat Analyzer. If your Body Mass Index and/or body fat percentage is too high, you're at higher risk for such health problems as heart disease and stroke.
- Waist and Wrist Circumference: Those with excess body fat – particularly around the waist – are more likely to develop heart disease and stroke. Wrist circumference is helpful in determining your natural body frame size.
- Full Lipid Panel: A high level of cholesterol in the blood – which can be measured by a simple finger stick – is a major risk factor for coronary heart disease and may lead to a heart attack. Will include total cholesterol, LDL, HDL and triglycerides.
- Hemoglobin A1c Measurement and Fasting Glucose: To screen for diabetes, or pre-diabetes. A high level of A1c in the blood – which can be measured by a simple finger stick – can indicate that you are at increased risk for developing eye, kidney, nerve or cardiovascular disease.
- Smoking Cessation Support: Smokers’ risk of developing coronary heart disease is 2-4 times that of nonsmokers – resources will be provided to help you begin your journey towards a healthier you.
Participants should allow approximately 1 hour for the screening. Don’t eat or drink 8 hours before your test. Please take medication as directed. Your medication(s) will not alter your test results. Arrive 10 minutes before your screening time.
The clinic accepts cash, check, credit/debit. Because this is a wellness test, your screening can also be applied to your flex spending account. Payroll deduction is also available for employees.
