Journaling Tip for Managing Transitions:

  1. Write about how you have navigated a challenge before.
  2. Re-read and highlight what life skills you gained in the process.
  3. Keep these listed in your phone, on a note card, or wherever you can easily refer to them.
  4. Pull them out whenever you need help to navigate change!

This is a great way to remind yourself of your own inner strength and courage!

"Light precedes every transition. Whether at the end of a tunnel, through a crack in the door or the flash of an idea, it is always there, heralding a new beginning." ....Teresa Tsalaky, The Transition Witness
A work in progress!

I don't know if you are like me but it seems like I am faced with a challenge in my life regularly, whether it's a move, the death of a loved one, or even the loss of my better health after an accident. I just moved this fall, as you can see! I've been knee deep in boxes for some time searching for missing utensils, clothing, and office supplies. At the end of each day after unpacking cartons of all shapes and sizes, I was becoming so exhausted I couldn't see right. My body ached all over from the pushing, pulling, and setting things in cupboards. The height of my frustration came during the holidays when I was trying to find a bowl to prepare the snow salad I promised for Christmas dinner. It took an hour and some creative thinking to come up with a plan B when the item didn't show up.

It became clear as the dust settled and January rolled around that I would have to be more responsive to my frustrations during this
Transition. I reminded myself that I was now in a lovely house, in a beautiful new neighborhood. If I didn't pull back and start watching my attitude and coming up with new strategies to get support, I would soon grind my teeth to the bone. This all sounds silly to admit now, but dealing with a boatload of angst isn't unusual for all of us going through major Life Transitions. The reason for all of the frustration we face is that Transitions involve targeted and focused inner and outer work that needs to be observed, assessed, and re-focused.

A new home emerges

For some of you, you'll  notice these same frustrations manifest in January when you are looking for change in the new year. We are all yearning for better things ahead and our resolutions for either a sleeker body or a happier outlook start to kick in.

Yet, we all seem to stop somewhere between knowing we want change and getting to our ultimate goal. We are in that middle ground of Transition and we just don't know what to do to make our new dreams come true. This place can then become overwhelming, frightening or just plain confusing. It's like we are walking in the muck inside a dimly lit, spooky tunnel.

In my experience as a coach, I know that many of us just don't know enough about ourselves and our strengths to proceed through this unrecognizable space to a new and adventuresome life. This only makes the transition process from old to new difficult and frustrating!

What I want to tell you is that YOU can make a new path for yourself that puts your angst behind you. And you can mine the inner strength and confidence to navigate change right now!

Believe it or not, acknowledging that you are actually stuck or upset is the first step to clarifying what to do next. For some of us, even that step is difficult!! We don't like to admit that things can take us down, like losing a job or being jilted by someone we thought was the love of our life. That realization just does not feel good. All we want in life is to act and feel strong and resilient.

But I want to tell you there are healthier and more positive ways for us to manage these kinds of difficult Transition periods. Each of us can find a unique, self-determined way towards that spectacular light at the end of the tunnel. Life Transitions, no matter how challenging, can be managed with the right kinds of support, whether writing out our targeted thoughts for a few minutes a day or getting professional help from a Life Coach.

That's why I am super excited to tell you about my new adventure! I became so intrigued about how to make Transitions smoother and easier that I took a class precisely about this subject. I'm having a great time and learning a lot! So I wanted to share a quick and easy
