Dear Game On! Chicago Families:

In-camp clinics presented by The Chicago Bandits (pro softball) and The Chicago Red Stars (pro soccer), an in-camp clinic offered by a former member of the New Zealand Women's Olympic basketball team, Tie Dye, Water Wars, Jump clinic... Just a representative sample of all of the special activities that went on this week. Can it get any better?

Read on for camp reflections from the week and upcoming week reminders.

Thoughtful Note for the Week

Top 10 Character Traits to Instill in our Young Athletes

After informally surveying approximately 50 individuals, including athletic parents, collegiate athletes and coaches from all different sports and levels, these were the top 10 lessons to emphasize and pass down to our young athletes.

1)   Do your best; No one can ask you anything more than to give it your all.

2)   Train hard and you will feel the reward.

3)   Maintain healthy attitudes when it comes to both winning and losing

4)   Its not over until the clock reads zero - don't give up

5)   Have fun

6)   Respect and listen to your coach

7)   Play fair; Play with integrity

8)   Maintain a positive attitude

9)   Never blame anyone but yourself

10)  Learn from your mistakes

It certainly would not hurt for all of us, athlete or not, to review these simple lessons; they apply as much to life in general as to life on the field or court.

Reminders

 Medical

If you are sending your daughter to camp with a medication, Inhaler, or an Epi-Pen, please include your camper's photo in all of your medical bags. It helps to quickly identify your camper's particular medical kit in an emergency. Thank you.

Optional Call for Mouth Guards

As you may know, the sports of lacrosse and field hockey involve small hard balls. While we do use tennis balls for our younger age divisions, we will be using the hard balls for our older campers.

We are inviting all camp families, whether you have campers young or older, to send their campers to camp with their own mouth guards. It is not a bad idea for the younger girls to become used to using mouth guards, and of course, for our older girls, it is a highly recommended safety precaution. In addition, if our campers decide to pursue either of those two sports outside of Game On!, more than likely mouth guards will be required.

For more on the subject of mouth guards, read our Game On! Sports Girl blog post.
