Thanks to you!
Thanks to the work of many individuals and businesses, schools and community organizations, Addison County now has a garden in every elementary school and composting systems in every high school!
We've done a whole lot!
With your support, in 2014 ACORN...

* Maintained 9 school gardens over the summer months

* Worked one-on-one with school foodservice managers and farmers, making connections, to increase seasonally available produce, eggs and Addison County beef to local schools

* Met with superintendents and principals to familiarize them with new school nutrition regulations, to increase participation rates in school meals and to promote local food buying

* Partnered with VT Department of Health and the
Alternative Ed program at Middlebury Union High School to build raised beds for low-income families

* Organized the Stone Soup Summit, an all-day gathering of our regional farm-to-school community at Middlebury College, which drew 125 attendees from over 40 schools

Let's keep ACORN growing!
With your support, ACORN can launch Harvest of the Month in every school in Addison County!

Harvest of the Month is a statewide marketing campaign that was created by our colleagues at Green Mountain Farm-to-SchoolVital Communities and Food Connects to supply schools with ready-to-go materials for the classroom, cafeteria and community promoting local, seasonal foods.

The vision is that in 3-5 years,
ALL Vermont schools will be serving and learning about local foods every month. We believe that Harvest of the Month offers us a concrete opportunity to dramatically
increase food education in our communities!

Support our efforts to:

* Distribute a Harvest of the Month calendar to every 3rd-6th grade elementary school family in Addison County

* Distribute Harvest of the Month materials to every school foodservice manager in the county with links to the New School Cuisine cookbook

* Organize taste-tests in elementary schools with Middlebury College Nutritional Outreach and Mentoring student volunteers

* Host workshops on implementing Harvest of the Month for teachers and parents

* Host a workshop on new local food procurement rules for school foodservice

* Host a workshop for farmers wishing to sell to schools directly

* Pilot Harvest of the Month at a local food retailer

* Pilot Harvest of the Month at a local restaurant

* Promote and support our Junior Iron Chefs

* Organize a local Professional Development class for teachers

* Submit a monthly Harvest of the Month column to school newsletters, newspapers and doctors' offices

*Advance Farm to Plate; Vermont's statewide initiative to increase economic development and jobs in the farm and food sector and improve access to healthy local food for all Vermonters.
