MoDOT Savings on Amtrak Missouri River Runner Winter Fares - Save 20 Percent on Adult Fares
 


The weather outside might get frightful, but this winter, savings on Amtrak travel are delightful. Missouri River Runner passengers can save 20 percent on adult fares for travel Jan. 5 through March 31. Book your seat using discount code V419 effective now through March 30, 2015. Reservations are required at least one day in advance of travel on the route between Kansas City and St. Louis, which includes stops at Kirkwood, Washington, Hermann, Jefferson City, Sedalia, Warrensburg, Lee's Summit and Independence.

MoDOT Names Melinda Grace-Beasley as New
Assistant Chief Counsel

The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission and MoDOT have selected Melinda Grace-Beasley as the new Assistant Chief Counsel-Human Resources.

Grace-Beasley graduated from the University of Kansas School of Law in 1991 and has represented the commission and department for 20 years. She began her career in 1994 as an assistant counsel with the MoDOT's Chief Counsel's Office in Jefferson City after being in private practice in Kansas City for three years.

Throughout the past two decades, she has performed various roles of increasing responsibility at the department, including senior assistant counsel from 1999 to 2003, and then regional counsel from 2003 until this year.

I-70 Report to Governor
In December, Governor Jay Nixon directed the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission to provide him with a report on options for tolling Interstate 70 in order to reconstruct and expand the facility while freeing resources for other transportation needs in Missouri. The report has been sent to the Governor.

Youth Art Competition to Illustrate World Air Games - Deadline for entries is Jan. 23, 2015

As students get back to class after the new year, teachers are reminded the deadline for entries in the 2015 International Aviation Art Contest is just a few weeks away. 


Get out your art supplies and create a piece of art capturing the excitement of looping and spinning planes, diving hang gliders and colorful hot air balloons. 

Young people throughout Missouri are invited to illustrate the competition aviation events of the 2015 FAI World Air Games in Dubai, UAE, in the 2015 International Aviation Art Contest. Visit the website for more details - Art Competition.

Making Headway

This month's edition of Modern Steel Magazine highlights an innovative bridge design on I-55 in Festus, Mo.

During MoDOT's Safe and Sound Bridge program that improved 802 bridges in the state, two bridges on I-55 called for some unconventional thinking in designing the structures. The design would have to allow enough head room for trains on the BNSF railroad to pass underneath the bridges, and be built in an economical way.
