Member Spotlight: Flagler Public Library
|
Flagler County Public Library
Holly Albanese, Director
Flagler County is located on Florida's northeast coast between St. Johns and Volusia counties. Flagler is bordered on the east by twenty miles of Atlantic Ocean coastline. Its largely unspoiled coastline and the county's commitment to preservation of the environment attract people to the area.
In 1980, the Palm Coast Library opened in a storefront shared with Daytona Beach Community College. In 1983, a facility was opened and staffed entirely by volunteers, funded by donations and membership in the Friends of the Library. After the library became a county department in 1987 the building was expanded and continued to serve as the Flagler County Public Library until the new 30,000 sq. ft. facility was opened in 2000.
In February 2004 the Bunnell Branch of the Flagler County Public Library opened its doors. The branch was established as a result of the law collection being moved out of the courthouse and the need for staff to maintain and allow for accessibility to the collection. The library was also looking to expand into underserved areas of the county and this opportunity presented an optimum solution.
The library acts as the heart of this community with more than 57,000 registered borrowers. Some of the services offered include: registering to vote, voting, tax preparation, filing passport applications, passport photos, fingerprinting, notary services, and as of 2013 an e-book service. The library truly is a one stop shopping center or an "edutainment complex". Visit www.flaglerlibrary.org for more information.
