Volunteer Opportunities
Textile Center's Holiday Shop needs your help!
Do you love the fiber art sold in the Shop, and would you enjoy telling the artists' stories behind the work? During the busy season of November and December we need your friendly people skills to greet visitors, introduce guests to work featured in the Holiday Shop, help customers with their gift selections, and answer general questions about Textile Center. A half-hour training session is required, scheduled for Tuesday, October 1, 11 am, Wednesday, October 2, 2 pm, and Thursday, October 3, 6 pm.
Volunteers can sign up on our volunteer calendar website: http://vols.pt/KN7B5S

Weaving to Protect, Preserve, and Celebrate
Thursday, October 10, 7 pm
Bounxou Daoheuang and Ladda Insixiengmay, mother and daughter, will discuss the traditional Laotian textiles they weave using the Lao ikat, kit brocade, and chok techniques. Daoheuang fled Laos more than 30 years ago. In a Thailand refugee camp she started a weaving school and from there made her way to MN. Together Daoheuang and Ladda will present their journey and insights into the spun silk thread marvels of the Lao weaving designs they produce. Daoheuang, 71, is a recipient of a folk artist fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts in 2000, and in 2002 a Bush Foundation fellowship. Ladda is a recipient of the 2011 Jerome Foundation Travel grant and in the same year, Minnesota State Arts Board Initiative Grant.
