Made Here, a new initiative led by Hennepin Theatre Trust as part of the Hennepin Cultural District, will launch the installation of nearly 40 temporary visual art displays on the street level of Block E. The displays - including one by Textile Center - will be installed through January 2014.

Textile Center's Holiday Shop needs your help!
Do you love the fiber art sold in the Shop, and would you enjoy telling the artists' stories behind the work? During the busy season of November and December we need your friendly people skills to greet visitors, introduce guests to work featured in the Holiday Shop, help customers with their gift selections, and answer general questions about Textile Center. A half-hour training session is required, scheduled for Tuesday, October 1, 11 am, Wednesday, October 2, 2 pm, and Thursday, October 3, 6 pm.

Weavers Guild of MN
Weaving to Protect, Preserve, and Celebrate Thursday, October 10, 7 pm Bounxou Daoheuang and Ladda Insixiengmay, mother and daughter, will discuss the traditional Laotian textiles they weave using the Lao ikat, kit brocade, and chok techniques. Daoheuang fled Laos more than 30 years ago. In a Thailand refugee camp she started a weaving school and from there made her way to MN. Together Daoheuang and Ladda will present their journey and insights into the spun silk thread marvels of the Lao weaving designs they produce. Daoheuang, 71, is a recipient of a folk artist fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts in 2000, and in 2002 a Bush Foundation fellowship. Ladda is a recipient of the 2011 Jerome Foundation Travel grant and in the same year, Minnesota State Arts Board Initiative Grant.

United Theological Seminary Fiber Artist Events
The workshop "Drawing with Scissors" at Textile Center is full, but you have other chances to learn more about and participate in the work of Vermont fiber artist Deidre Scherer. Deidre's work, Threads of Connection, which depicts the end of life, is on exhibit at United Theological Seminary, where there are programs and workshops scheduled. You can register for the "Community Quilting Project" or explore other events while the artist is in residence at United October 2-5.
