The Studio E Art Therapy Project will be held again for the second year.  Studio E is an art therapy program that is sponsored by Lundbeck pharmaceuticals.  Last year we held only one six part session session in Brick for teens.

This year we will be holding that session and also another in Parsippany for adults, 18 and older, with Epilepsy.  The sessions will be 3 hours once a week for 6 weeks.  If you are interested in attending, please contact Jenna Andolora at [email protected] or 800.336.5843.

Space is limited.

Bounce Out the Stigma Basketball Camp

Bounce Out The Stigma basketball camp is a partnership of Mighty Mike Basketball and The Family Resource Network. The goal of this collaboration is to provide children and young people, with developmental disabilities a chance to learn using basketball as the primary vehicle to overcome obstacles in life. Our purpose is for children to gain confidence and "bounce-out" their "limitations" to empower themselves.

28 New Medicines in Development for Epilepsy and Seizures

A newly-released report from Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) has revealed that nearly 450 new medicines are in development to treat neurological disorders, including 28 for epilepsy and seizures.

"The Epilepsy Foundation applauds PhRMA and its member companies for their research investments and commitments to innovation," said Phil Gattone, President & CEO of the Epilepsy Foundation.  "For the one third of people with epilepsy who have no effective treatment options to those seeking better seizure control and fewer side effects, investments in new options is critical.  Our community welcomes the news of the Neurological Disorders report and the hope it brings for the future in epilepsy care."

Seizures Reduced and Progression of Epilepsy Slowed by Adenosine Therapy

Epilepsy is characterized by recurrent seizures that present in many different ways. In some cases epileptic patients exhibit a progressive increase in both frequency and severity of seizures. Epigenetic changes such as DNA methylation have recently been implied as an underlying cause of several neurologic disorders, including epilepsy.

In this issue of the Journal of Clinical Investigation, Detlev Boison and colleagues at Legacy Research show an increase of DNA methylation in the hippocampi of epileptic animals. They found that increased methyation corresponded with a decrease of adenosine (ADO), which is a known anticonvulsant.
