Holiday Shop Hours

While we will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, we will be open for the holiday weekend and accepting repairs. Our hours and repairs shop time are limited, and due to the large number of repairs we take in, we strongly recommend an appointment for repairs. While no repair work will be turned away, preference in shop time and completion will be given to clients with an appointment. We will be happy, as usual, to provide loaner instruments and bows. To schedule your Thanksgiving repairs, call us at (847)-674-0690 or email us at [email protected].

Matt Brown & Friends/ The Stray Birds

Thursday, November 13, 2014
Old Town School of Folk Music | 4545 N Lincoln Ave
The Myron R. Szold Music & Dance Hall
8 P.M.
$18 General Public, $16 Members

The first portion of the concert will feature Matt Brown and fellow musicians Grant Ziolkoswki and Gia Margaret. Matt Brown has grown up surrounded by old time. As a teen he had the opportunity to play with many traditional old time musicians such as Brad Leftwich, Ginny Hawker and Bruce Molsky. Eventually he began touring as a soloist and released four albums as well as being featured on the album "Dear Jean: Artists Celebrate Jean Ritchie." He currently teaches fiddle, banjo, and guitar at the Old Town School.

The second half of the concert features headliners Maya de Vitry, Oliver Craven, and Charlie Muench together as The Stray Birds. The three are originally from Lancaster, Pennsylvania. All are classically trained musicians but are well versed in other styles. Influenced by bands like The Carter Family, Jimi Hendrix, Bill Monroe and His Blue Grass Boys, the Stray Birds are able to create gorgeous three part harmony singing and instrumental virtuosity.

"The Stray Birds bring a unique maturity to their record, with a real reverence for traditional folk, and a refreshing sense of intimacy to their original songs."

-Helen Leicht, WXPN Philadelphia
