City Approves the Purchase of New Police Vehicles and New Plow Truck

Westland, MI - Residents in Westland will see twenty new police vehicles patrolling the streets of the City after council members unanimously approved the purchase of eight new 2014 Ford Explorer Interceptor SUV's and twelve 2014 Taurus cars for the department's fleet.

"The vehicles being replaced in our current fleet have been used to their fullest potential, patrolling our streets 24-7. Time has come to retire aging vehicles, and replace them with technologically more advanced and fuel efficient ones," said Mayor Wild.

A 7-0 vote Monday, July 1, by the city council gives the Westland Police Department the green light to purchase the new vehicles and outfit them with the proper equipment. The total cost is estimated at $660,000 and will be financed through a three-year purchase agreement with Chase Bank at a 1.3% interest rate.

"The safety of our officers and the public is paramount to our Department.  These vehicles will provide our officers with the latest technology to assist them in providing police services to our City.  I want to thank the Mayor and the City Council for once again providing us with the tools we need to make our city safer," added Westland Police Chief Jeff Jedrusik.

Westland is also upgrading the vehicle roster of its Public Services Department, with City Council also approving the purchase of a new International 7400 SBA single axle stainless steel dump truck with an underbelly scraper, which will be utilized in winter months for snow removal.  The total cost for the new dump truck is estimated at $163,930.00 and is being purchased through the M.I. Deal purchasing plan.
