A Note to Our Community
Karl

From the gallery shop filled with handmade goods by local artists to the gatherings of guilds, the spirit of the holiday season is bright at Textile Center. It's heartwarming to witness guilds and our members celebrate the holidays by creating and collecting fiber gifts for those in need... including winter wear for youth and hand woven baskets filled with gifts for families.

Artists coming together in community... this is what Textile Center is about. During my first month as your executive director, I've enjoyed attending guild meetings and being introduced to many amazing fiber artists. The generous spirit of our guilds and artists, which extends beyond the holiday season, is inspiring. Thank you all for the many ways you share your talents and gifts.

Our first two "Fiberside Chats" this month resulted in engaging conversations about fiber art, our programs and ideas for the future. We're planning more gatherings in January and February, and we hope you will join us for treats with coffee, tea and hot chocolate. The next two are set for:

  • Saturday January 24, 2 - 4 pm. Coincides with our What's Growing Here? community felting project.
  • Wednesday February 4, 10 am - 12 pm.
Please RSVP here.

We wish you all happy holidays, and look forward to a great 2015!

10 nuno felted scarves
Iona Loyola Scarf

Everyday, Iona Loyola finds inspiration on her daily walks in Central Park, her favorite place in NYC. She also pulls inspiration from her childhood in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where she used to love to watch her grandmother making beautiful garments out of crochet. She received her degree in Textile Design in 2003 from the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) while working as a weaver for several textile companies. After taking a felting class from Robbin Firth, she fell in love with the art of it. The rest is history.
