Merry Christmas!  What a year it's been at St. Edward High School.  Our Holy Cross mission has manifested itself in so many ways in 2014 as our students embraced their faith, achieved excellence in countless ways, formed lifelong relationships with teachers, coaches and each other, and answered God's call to servant leadership.  As we prepare to celebrate Christmas next week, we do so by recounting the many blessings that our community enjoyed in 2014.

These are a few of our favorite things...

The 2013-14 theme challenging students to be "Worthy of the Call" transitioned to 2014-15 when students were inspired to have "The Courage to Act" as men of faith.

Ten members of the Class of 2015 were named National Merit Semifinalists - the most of any Catholic School in Northeast Ohio, and 13 were honored as Commended Scholars.

The Basketball, Indoor Track & Field and Football Teams all won state championships in 2014, bringing the school's total number of championship banners to 55 - the most in the state of Ohio.

Our March 7 Clips for Cancer event broke the record for the number of heads shaved in an
hour and raised funds to benefit pediatric cancer research.  St. Edward students have raised more than $25,000 for the St. Baldrick's Foundation since starting Clips for Cancer two years ago.

For the fourth straight year, the St. Edward Marching Band earned a "superior" rating at the Ohio Music Educator's Association State Competition.

St. Edward students and faculty traveled the world in 2014, visiting England, China, Italy, France, Central Europe, the British Virgin Islands, and South America.

The football team opened its 2014 season on ESPN and in preparation for the game, our creative students re-created their favorite "This is SportsCenter" commercials with a St. Ed's twist.

Performing West Side Story in the spring and 1776 in the fall, the Edwardian Players continued to impress audiences in 2014 as they've done for many years.

A new homeroom period, introduced in 2014, has given students, faculty and staff opportunities in their day to form strong relationships, serve our community and have lots of  fun.

We carried on the tradition of the student-led Holy Cross Servant Leadership Retreat.
With a retreat in January and one in June, our students had the opportunity to focus
on what it means to be a Christ-like servant leader.

St. Edward IB students from the Class of 2014 outpaced the world average by 10% in pursuit of the prestigious International Baccalaureate Diploma.

At the 2014 Wings Auction, a record $490,000+ was raised for the young men of St. Edward High School.  Thank you for your widespread support and generosity!

March 2o14 marked 20 years since teachers Mike Reiling and Paul Bosley founded the St. Edward Community Meal.  In those 20 years, thousands of meals have been cooked and served by teachers, parents, students and other volunteers to benefit our neighbors in Lakewood.

Get the Edge, our summer enrichment program, was one of the best ever in 2014, as 7th and 8th graders from throughout Northeast Ohio spent their summers at St. Ed's.

Led by senior Alex Stump, the entire St. Edward Community took part in signing a pledge to end domestic violence against women this fall.

We sent the Class of 2014 out to make a difference in the world after four awesome years with them!

We enthusiastically welcomed the Class of 2018, looking forward to many great things they'll accomplish in the next four years as Eagles.

Over 100 students participated in Dialogue Days on cultural diversity in the year 2014.

Sean Cann '13 developed and released a St. Edward High School mobile app for our students and faculty, available on iPhone and Android.

This year, we started the Diocese of Cleveland's only high school chapter of the Society of
St. Vincent de Paul.  Through the St. Vincent de Paul Society our students are putting
words into action and performing impactful service throughout the community.

Our school community surpassed its goal of collecting "25,000 Cans" for the Thanksgiving Food Drive in partnership with Lakewood Charitable Assistance Corporation during the month of November.

Thank you to the students, parents, faculty, alumni, volunteers and friends who make St. Ed's such an incredibly vibrant place.

On behalf of the entire St. Edward Administration, Faculty and Staff, best wishes to you and your family for a blessed and merry Christmas!  We're looking forward to another great year in 2015!
