We have come to learn that research does not validate the "Stages of Grief". Please join us for this interactive day as we look at new models of understanding grief, and loss, and practical interventions.
Grief and loss are subjects most prefer to avoid.
Scripture tells us suffering and grief are to be expected and God's comfort is available.
However, many believers experience spiritual conflict, or crises, after a loss and feel unsupported by their faith community.
Any unhealed area in our lives keeps us from enjoying God's best. Let's gather to make a positive shift in that experience.
The goal of this workshop is to provide information on how to promote healing in those grieving and free them up to pursue their life purpose.
This workshop will:
Define normal grief reactions
Debunk the "Stages of Grief" as a valid model
Differentiate types of grief
Identify styles of grief
Identify coping styles and resilience
Contrast what is, and is not, helpful
Offer clarity on current interventions, and models
Give you the tools to identify a spiritual crisis and ways to help
ABOUT THE TEACHER
Vickie Mears holds a Masters' degree in social work from the University of Kansas. She was the Director of Grief Support Services at Crossroads Hospice of Kansas City, Missouri for ten years. Her new role at Crossroads is providing education to faith communities on loss, grief, and end of life challenges. She is also available to train on how to develop grief or care-giving support groups. She believes God has designed us to heal, in the same way He designed us to live, in community.
