The DAAD Short Term Lectureship program provides financial support in the process of hosting German visiting professors and lecturers at universities in North America.

Its aims are to promote academic activity in specialized fields, help fill curricular gaps, or act as a stimulus for teaching and research. By facilitating teaching, German educators who spearhead developments in pedagogy or a particular discipline can share their knowledge, skills, and experiences with students on campuses in the United States and Canada. This program is open to all academic disciplines for lectureships in duration of four weeks to six months.

The deadline for the next round of applications is: July 17, 2014.

Ecotoxicology studies the effects of chemicals on the biotic environment, develops concepts for risk management and predicts ecological consequences.

The International Master program in Ecotoxicology at the University of Koblenz-Landau is fully conducted in English and comprises four semesters of full-time study with a total amount of 120 ECTS points. It starts with the winter semester in October 2014.

Within 2 years the interdisciplinary program integrates courses in chemistry, toxicology and ecology and combines the theoretical and practical lectures at the university with internships at research organizations and in industry. As a result the career perspectives are excellent since graduates are prepared for many employment opportunities in an emerging field of science, e.g. at research institutes,
authorities and ministries, in industry and consulting enterprises.

No tuition fees, personal mentoring by the qualified staff, and life in one of the warmest regions of Germany are just three of the many reasons why you should come and study with us.

Application deadline for this year`s Master program starting in mid-October: 15. July 2014

Upcoming Workshop: Health Promotion for Populations in the Periphery" Workshop

From September 14-20, 2014, the Heidelberg Institute of Public Health and the Heidelberg University Alumni network organize a special workshop relating to matters of health of underprivileged populations. Participants in the workshop Health Promotion for Populations in the Periphery are expected to share their experiences and to actively contribute to the program. Applicants should hold a degree in international health, preferably of Heidelberg University, and be evidently interested in and working on the health improvement of disadvantaged populations. Heidelberg Alumni U.S. (HAUS) is pleased to offer two stipends to participants from the US.

Applicants must have studied or worked in Germany for at least a month. For more details and the program please go to http://www.alumni.uni-heidelberg.de/en/seminare_summerschool2014.html
Complete applications can be submitted to [email protected].

Application deadline: June 30, 2014.

The goal of the seminar is to discuss the situation of people with limited access to health services and to explore strategies that can improve the insufficient healthcare for underprivileged populations in developing countries as well as in industrial nations. Limited access to adequate medical services could have many causes, like distance for people in a remote rural village, or lack of cash money, obligations to care for family, or the opportunity to leave home. For a critically ill patient, the periphery may start in front of the door of the hospital to which access is denied because treatment cannot be paid. The work shop is designed to bring people with a wealth of experience in this area together to share their ideas and expertise. The workshop is generously supported by the DAAD.
