Griffith, Professor Emeritus and Senior Research Scientist in Psychiatry and Deputy Chair for Diversity and Organizational Ethics, Department of Psychiatry at Yale University will be presenting about his essay, "Therapeutic Dimensions of Sacred Garments Worn by the Barbados Spiritual Baptists." Register to join us for this coffee and conversation session.

This Friday! Articulations of Humanity In Black Religious Life: Perspectives on Religion and the Human Condition  - 
Friday, April 19, 2:00 - 5:00pm, 
Annenberg Forum, Carswell Hall | The School of Divinity, in partnership with Faces of Courage, The Humanities Institute, the Department of Religion, and the Office of the Chaplain, will host a symposium bringing together emerging and senior scholars for a dialogue on issues related to African American religious experience as part of the larger quest to live a complex humanity. The invited speakers will discuss the impact of religion on the human condition through topics such as the arts, literature, politics, post-race discourse, embodiment, gender, sexuality, poverty, and Hip Hop culture. Registration is free: add to your calendar and register here.

Voices in the Whirlwind: A Worship Experience and Open Mic Night - Friday, April 19, 7:00pm - Lower Auditorium |Project Chapel is hosting a time of worship in the form of an open mic night. If you would like to participate by sharing your voice with our community, either through spoken word, song, or even reading something that someone else has written, please let us know.  We would love to hear from as many people as possible in our community. Even if you don't want to vocally participate, we encourage you to come listen to those who would share next Friday at 7 pm in the Lower Auditorium.  There will be refreshments. If you would like to participate, please let Chelsea Yarborough ([email protected]) know by Monday.
   

End of Year Banquet | The annual End of Year Banquet will be held at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church on Thursday April 25, at 6:00 PM.  Sponsored by the Student Leadership Council, this is an annual celebration of graduating third year students as well as an opportunity to gather with friends, faculty, staff to mark the end of the academic year.  Tickets are $12.00 and can be reserved by filling out the RSVP form here.
 
 
NEW DATE: Coffee with the Deans - Tuesday, April 30  - 11:00am, Lower Auditorium | Join the Wake Div Deans for Coffee on Tuesday, April 30 for a presentation and conversation about our school! There will be time for Q&A, but we would prefer all the topics to be coordinated so the Deans can address a topic with clear and responsible answers. This exhibition is a multimedia exhibit that features oral histories of local older adults, photo essays by middle school students, and archival images of Winston-Salem as it reflects on the local food environment, past and present. Safe Zone Training
Wednesday, April 17, 6:00 - 9:30pm, Room 301, Reynolda Hall
The Safe Zone program is an in-depth, interactive presentation designed to educate Wake Forest faculty, staff, and students about the LGBTQ community. Anti-LGBTQ bias and prejudice affects all members of a community, and we all have the opportunity to work against it. Participants learn what it means to be an ally-a person who supports and stands up for the rights of LGBTQ people-as well as how to create a Safe Zone.  

 

 

Gender Equality Allies will be hosting the Human Rights Clothesline Project

Thursday, April 18th, 2:00 - 5:00pm, Magnolia Quad

The Human Clothesline Project is a form of activism. Students/Faculty/Staff will come to our table on the quad and grab a blank t-shirt. Each person will then make a t-shirt that highlights a specific human rights issue. All t-shirts will be hung on the quad for those passing by to see. This project is a subtle way to shed light on big issues. It is a simple project that has the power to educate and engage. Anyone can shed light on an issue that personally affects them or just be an advocate for a cause they believe in. Invite your friends and come out to the Mag Quad on April 18th. 

 

 

2013 Student Art Exhibition Opening Reception

In the Life (ITL) is a discussion group for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning (LGBTQ) students of color that meets once a month on the 3rd Thursday from 6-7pm in Benson 218. 

 

 

Rewriting Homosexuality: An Anthology of Essays

Rewriting Homosexuality is an anthology of essays written by gay men about gay male sexuality, including its forms, politics, histories and theories, along with its pleasures and harms. Sponsored by the Office of the Provost, the Humanities Institute, Women's and Gender Studies, Wake Forest School of Law, Z. Smith Reynolds Library, the Office of Multicultural Affairs, and the LGBTQ Center. 

 

 

WoofForest Yappy Hour - April 19, 5:00pm - Hearn Plaza
This Friday! WoofForest will be hosting a Yappy Hour at 5 pm in order to raise money for the local Humane Society. Bring your dogs (or any other trained animals, if you so desire) and come hang out on Hearn Plaza. There will be puppy racing with the dogs from the Forsyth County Humane Society (No dogs will be harmed in the process, we promise), a raffle to win prizes and a contest to find the most "Demon Deacon" of dogs. We will also be selling homemade bow ties and will be offering pet portraits for a small donation.

A Night of Kupchipudi with Shantala Shivalingappa: Indian Classical Dancer
Friday, April 19, 7:30pm, Brendle Recital
"Shivalingappa...is among those rare exponents of global dance forms who, with a fluid arm gesture or a volley of staccato footwork, draw audiences from other cultures into their world. She...embodies stylistic imperatives and glows with universal appeal" (San Francisco Chronicle). Accompanied by five musicians, she will bring us a rare performance of the Kupchipudi style, one that is rhythmic and vibrant and full of intricate footwork and jumps.  Admission is charged.

 

 

Food For Thought: Celebrate Earth Day at Wake Forest

Saturday, April 20th, 12:00pm - 6:00pm
Manchester Plaza
Food for Thought, this year's Earth Day celebration at Wake Forest, will include educational booths, local food vendors, and live dance and musical performances. Wake Forest affiliates are encouraged to bring their families. Some activities will be geared specifically towards families with children during the early part of the fair; all audiences are welcome to attend throughout the day. Find more information here


Food Justice Summit

The Food Justice Summit will seek to promote the advocacy and awareness of food justice issues in Winston-Salem and the greater North Carolina area.
