Venue Weather Report from Kevin

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(from Kevin Patterson)
No new issues. Lots of advance work by our production team has helped minimize problems and at least keep up with the impacts of the 'interior' rain. We are ALL thankful for the timing of the storm and look forward to a weekend of togetherness to cure the cabin fever.
Heat Mitigation
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(from Kevin Patterson)

Regarding the heat issues in the building on busy days, we want you to know what is being done. When it gets "un-London-like" in our show, it is uncomfortable for us all, and for our guests, and we have been working with the Cow Palace for the last couple of years on various fixes. The problem is largely due to inadequate exhaust ventilation in the ceilings of certain halls, especially the three halls closest to Geneva that have no ceiling fans at all. When the hot air cannot get out of the ceiling, the ability to draw in cooler air from all the open doors and side vents is essentially 'stifled'. We have therefore been retrofitting all six Halls with "out-take" ventilation units on the sides of the buildings. Ideally we would like to see new ventilation in the roof of each Hall, but that will take time. Our 6 side-wall exhaust fans, designed by our own Chris Bishop of Beverage fame, and installed pre-Fair, are a good start but they can only pull air so far. We are therefore taking a second step this week by purchasing and hanging fans high in the middle of certain halls. This should help move the stagnant air toward the outside walls where our nicknamed "death star" exhaust fans are located. Along with maximizing every opportunity to bring in fresh air at all side doors and vents, we hope for a marked improvement. The Cow Palace has managed to repair their exhaust fan over Fezziwigs so that area is improved. However, until they are able to put proper ceiling vents in all the buildings that need them, we will be dealing with some excess heat on our busiest days. Wanting to keep you informed, ...and as cool as possible as you make your way through the streets of London! ~Kevin (and the Red Barn production team).

Thanks!

Notes from Costumes

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(from Liz Martin)
Hygiene,hygiene, hygiene!
Ladies and gentleman of London: please keep in mind that while your character may bathe only once a month, you should certainly be cleansing your own body far more frequently!  With the monsoon season upon us in London, it is necessary to wear deodorant and antiperspirant. Please make sure you are washing your shirts/chemises regularly.
This is very important when you are renting or using a costume that is not your own.
Please return costumes promptly
Costumes that a rented/borrowed from the costume shop are due back at 7pm when the Fair closes. Please return them as close to this time as possible. It's not fun for us to wait till 8 or 8:30 to have a costume returned
Speaking of returns
Have you find an item of clothing in your stash that has a Red Barn Productions tag on it? This is the time if year when we extend clemency to those wayward renters who may have forgotten to return  items from previous years.
Just drop it off at the costume shop, (put it in a bag if we're not there) and everything will be just fine.
And . . . if you have items of Dickens style clothing you'd like to remove from your closets, bring that by as well!
Thank you
Hours
Costume shop hours are 8am -7:30pm Sat and Sun.
Photos
This weekend is your last chance to have your photo taken for Fastrack. The photo booth will be open from 2:40-4:30 Sat and Sunday.
Thank you
I would like to thank the following costume shop peeps for being so fabulous this year: Alexandria Volk, Susan Kennedy-Grant, Terianne Potter, Scott Pennington, Del & Dale Peterson, Val Hicks, John & Cathryn Reynolds, Caitlin Leyden, Liesl Buchbinder, William, and David. I think I got you all! The shophas run efficiently and smoothly this year. Hope I'm not jinxing it! My eternal gratitude to you all.
Saturday Evening Ceilidh
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

(from Tim Cadell)

We're having a cilidh this Saturday evening, the 13th of December, from 7:30 to 9:30, at Golden Square stage and dance floor, in front of Mr Brown's Coffee House! Come one, come all, bring a song and/or instruments!  I've never done this, so there's no structure! More notes next week if needed. You can contact me at [email protected]

Note:  As this is after hours, gate passes are required.  This is a 'Coffee Celidh' not a 'Beer Ceilidh', ...the bar will not be open.  Parking shuttles end at 8 so ride up at 7:30 or so and bring your car to the front lot to assist with instruments etc.

Dickens in Virtual Reality

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(from David Arendash)
You may have noticed, or soon will, a rather strange camera appearing around the Fair. MindVR is capturing the DCF in 'virtual reality' as high-definition 360-degree panoramic 3D video. The viewer will ultimately view this with a smart phone and stereo-opticon device, or Oculus Rift. Ask Philippe or Dave (Mr. Tupman, MPC) for a demonstration. When you see the camera, (which is actually 13 cameras shooting in all directions), please treat it as if it were any other visitor to London, and respect the space around it. PHOTOGRAPHERS: You cannot hide behind this camera! Please keep a respectful distance, thank you.
Dickens in 3D/Cheap Hair Update
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(from Annie Lore)

Dickens in 3D
     From 3D Annie: If the CowPow is still usable after all this rain, I'll be out there shooting and peddling 3D pictures. I should be set up a bit better this week, and getting them on both digital and film. We want good stuff for the Big Faire/Fair 3D Show! Prepare to pose-- or just be visible. I'll get all I can. Watch for the leopard hat and strange cameras.
    Check for developments and more on the show at http://www.excelsiorcompany.com/3dfaire.html.
    Contact Annie Lore at [email protected] or through the website with any questions. I've got a 3D info board up backstage next to the music hall dressing room door (across from Costumes) with Illuminating Literature. During fair hours you can discreetly text me at (707) 694-5969.

Cheap Hair Update!
Cheap Hair Annie sez: Sorry, folks, the other Dance Curls and Braided Headbands and all STILL haven't come in. There seems to be a shipment stalled in Customs. Nertz! As soon as this changes I'll notify everyone who's awaiting hair-- not that it'll see much exposure in London at this point. Keep your fingers crossed. You can write me at [email protected]. Good luck to us all!

PEERS: A Victorian 12th Night Ball

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(from James & Cathleen Myers
Mr. and Mrs. Fezziwig invite you to A Victorian 12th Night Ball - with special guest Charles Dickens and "surprise guests" Queen Victoria and Prince Albert on Saturday, January 3, 2015. Location is the elegant Alameda Elks Lodge at 2255 Santa Clara Avenue in Alameda. After a Victorian dance lesson at 7pm, Bangers & Mash plays an evening of elegant Victorian ballroom dance music and exhilarating English Country Dances (which will be briefly taught and called). No partners required! Event includes a no host bar, a light snack buffet,  and performances by the Peerless Music Hall and Mr. Dickens himself. Victorian costume (circa 1837-1870) or modern evening dress is admired, but not required. Tickets are $20 (by December 27); $25 at the door.
For information, please call (510) 522-1731, email [email protected] or see the ball Web site at http://www.peersdance.org/12th2015.html
Best regards,
James & Cathleen Myers, PEERS
Reminder: Be Nice to Our Guards / Show Your Passes
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Please remember that our security guards are there for everyone's safety. Each year some of them are new and don't know everyone's faces. Then we go and confuse them by putting on costumes.

Please have your passes with you at all times and don't give the guards attitude. Yes, I have had to show my pass plenty of times this year, it kind of makes me chuckle actually...
