Westland, MI - The Westland City Council has approved a bid for services rendering the City of Westland's website re-design. Vision Internet was picked out of seven qualified companies who placed bids to the City. Vision Internet, a company that has been in business for 17 years, was selected for having the most technically comprehensive and innovative bid response. The website re-design project will commence as early as this week and the new website is expected to be up and running by late summer.
The Mayor and the City's web team have garnered pertinent information from residents in the past few months through both an assessment survey and a Twitter Town Hall which both focused on how the current website could be improved in the areas of interactivity, content and design. The City provided this valuable feedback to Vision Internet who will be making the following improvements to the site: ability to schedule city inspections online; online park and pavilion rentals; enhanced online payment options, including fast and secure online water bill payment options; near real-time crime mapping utility; fully compatible with mobile phones and tablets; an online citizen portal for easy issue reporting and communication with the City; and real-time chat with customer service agents at the City to reduce wait times and trips to the counter. The new site will also be a 'Responsive Web Design,' meaning that the screen will adapt to the device and browser size that you are using, eradicating the need for a smart phone application.
"In this day and age websites serve not only as a resource of information for citizens, but through interactive features, can also provide a large range of services. There are interactive features that are absolutely essential for any government website and we want to ensure that the residents of Westland have the ability to conduct City business 24 hours a day," said Mayor Wild.
Vision Internet is a company that is 100 percent focused on website development and website hosting and has over 500 government and educational clients. They have won 18 awards in 2013 and 30 awards in 2012 for the design and functionality of the sites they have designed.
"I'm confident that Vision Internet will help revolutionize and modernize our online services and offerings to our great citizens," said Daniel Bourdeau, Director of Information Technology. "My goal is simple: offer easy to use - always open for business - online options to our residents and business owners."
