Greetings!

Because of you and another 1,375 Young Leaders our society raised $694,693 last year, which in part will help parents become their child's first teacher. We expect 200 parents will participate each quarter. Thank you for helping them expand their parenting skills!

Donations from Young Leaders Society members increased by $16,603 from 2011, and we gained another 112 members.

Young Leader: "YLS aligns with our desire to positively impact the community."

We have started publishing a monthly spotlight, highlighting one Young Leader per month. If you want to nominate somebody to be featured, please feel free to reply to this email.

This spotlight is about Amber Doyle, who sits on the Young Leaders committee and works for International Paper.

United Way: Tell us a little bit about yourself. Where do you work? What do you do for fun?

Amber: Hi, I am Amber Doyle and I lead the Purchasing & Stores Team at International Paper, Cedar River Mill. I graduated from Iowa State University in 2001 with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering, and have lived in Cedar Rapids ever since. I keep busy with my two sons, Jacob (6) and Dawson (5), and husband, Dan. We love the outdoors, and keep busy gardening and playing ball.

United Way:
Why did you join the Young Leaders Society?

Amber: My husband, Dan, and I have been members for several years. We find that the YLS aligns with our desire to positively impact the community, with a special focus on the education and growth of our youth.

United Way: What are your favorite activities in the community?

Parenting Tip

Take care of yourself so you can take care of your child. Becoming a parent can be overwhelming and exhausting. Unless you take care of yourself, you will have a hard time taking good care of your child. For this reason, it's important to have support from friends, family or community organizations.

Leadership Quote

"Simplicity is rejected because it seems unimportant, ineffective, even naive. Simple feels common and easy, even though it's rare and difficult."
