Greetings!

Looking for an unusual alternative to Sauvignon Blanc? Few people think of Torrontes when choosing a white wine for the summer, but it is crisp, flavorful, and full of citrus fruit, much like a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc.

This grape is the main white grape varietal of Argentina. Lemon and grapefruit dominate the nose and front of the pallet, while herbal notes of fennel and anise follow through on the finish. Bright acidity also makes the wine excellent for pairing with seafood and grilled chicken, as well as salads and vegetarian dishes, or serve as a refreshing aperitif.   A great buy!

Pascual Toso Malbec

Pascual Toso Malbec

It is no secret that Malbec has taken the American wine market by storm, but did you know that it has replaced Cabernet Sauvignon as the most popular red wine?  There is good reason for this.

Cabernet Sauvignon has always been the go-to wine to pair with beef, but it is actually best with well-done meat, like brisket and pot roast.  If you like your meat medium-rare, a full-bodied Pinot Noir, Carmenere, or Malbec are much better choices.  (Argentinians, in particular, know beef)!

Aged for 12 months in new Oak Barrels: 50% American and 50% French, this value-priced Malbec is round and inviting. Slightly firm and full of dark cherry and plum fruit,  it is a complex and well-balanced wine, with lingering and gentle tannins.  Ideal for red meats, lamb, pasta with sausage, and fine fermented cheese.

Mahon

Mahon

Mahon, from the island of Menorca, is one of a few cow's milk cheeses from Spain. Mahn is  sharp, lemony, and salty, evoking the rural Mediterranean.  The rind has a hard, crumbly cheddar-like texture which darkens as the wheels age. At peak, Mahn is tangy, intense and delicious, but is still creamy and luscious.  Pair this cheese with a crisp wine, full of summer fruit, like the Pascual Torrontes or Goulaine Vouvray (Chenin Blanc).  Mahon is also great with a an elegant tempranillo, such as Artardi Vinas de Gain, or an aged Madeira, such as Cossart-Gordon 15 yr. Bual.

Serrano

Jamon Serrano

Jamn is a trademark of Spanish cuisine, featuring prominently in virtually every restaurant and family kitchen. As home to two types of world famous cured hams, Spain honors its Jamn as both a cultural icon and everyday indulgence. The curing process is regarded as a sacred art, with many producers honoring traditions that go back thousands of years. At Savour Wine and Cheese, we provide you the best in the two distinctive types of Spanish ham: Jamn Serrano ($11.99 1/2 lb.) and Jamn Ibrico (acorn-fed, free-range, from the Black-footed pig - $33.99 1/2 lb).
